Good morning. My morning walkabout and coffee was taken under the brim of a 30's Kennsington. Sold at Hurley's, Canada.

It is finally here.. StingyMas is upon us!

Stingymas is a celebration of shorter brim hats, started by our friend Mike @Redfokker and myself, to show a hat may have a stingy brim but still have plenty of style and quality. Over the years several of you have joined in the stingy fun. For those who care to come along…. The rules are very simple and loose… for the next 11 days share the hats whose brims are in the shorter end of our collections. Have fun! The final day of StingyMas coincides with Festivus!

On the first day of StingyMas…. Dobbs Four Seasons in Caramel with Guild Edge

Happy Stingymas, Joe. Your Dobbs is a great start to the season.

Thanks, Brent. I say that based on it having a black leather sweatband and the round logo on the liner. Anyone know when they started with these? It is a little more tapered than my older playboy but you’re right—it’s a great hat either way.

Looks to be either very late 1950s or very early 1960s, ('59-'60?). I've seen that black sweat band with the round size tag before on another hat. Somebody else with better knowledge could chime in and let us know for sure.
Agreed.. while nothing set in stone… I think we’ve been estimating those mixed number keyhole tags as very late 50s to very early 60s (‘59-‘60 ish as Terry said). This might be one of the few with that tag I’ve seen with the black sweat.

Whatever the case it is one real nice Playboy. What are the dimensions?

EMS "Gloria" Backbow, possibly later 1920s early 1930s. This Wool Soft Felt came with a crease clip (Excelsior) and has a classic look of the time and place. The felt (Ferrum) and ribbon (Veilchen) colors are very interesting shades of Violet. Possibly made by Berlin Gubener Hutfabrik and EMS might be a distributor. I found this Wool Soft Felt back in 2013.

Thanks, Joe—2 1/2 brim and still a 5 1/2 open crown but more tapered. That feels right—‘59-‘60–just before the stingy brims took over.
