After missing a couple of days a while back, I thought I’d get caught up and then post something of my own. Unfortunately, it was so slow that I found myself clicking a link, going away and doing something else while it loaded, coming back, clicking “like,” going away and doing something else while it registered, and so on. With other stuff going on, I’m now further behind than ever.

I have been enviously watching everyone’s migration to felt, while the weather here has remained too hot for me to follow suit.

Finally, the evenings have cooled enough that I was able to don my unlined Christys’ Trilby, which I chose as it was one I hadn’t stored in a box, so it was easily accessible.

The unlined and vented Akubra Cattleman is my barbecue hat, no matter the weather.

And here we are today, about a week on from the Christys’ and we are expecting daytime temperatures under 30 degrees Celsius. I dug out one of my favourites to start the felt season proper.

Etsuko’s first foray into felt for the season was a Maxim.

Latest arrival from the glorious Tonak - Huckel.

There was a really quick sale in mid-September and I took advantage of it.
The name of the hat is "Caruso" the size is 59 cm. or 7 3/8 in the USA.

The felt is "Hermes Dark Soleil" and its origin is "Rabbit Hair", it also has the denomination "Excellent Quality".

We are faced with a hat that has two faces: a poorly defined shape, the brims are quite flat, but floppy and the crown is particularly hard and with a predefined shape, this is the least pleasant face.

The fantastic one is felt: it has a fantastic color and a finish that is very uncommon in today's felts. "Soleil" was often used in French and Italian hatmaking to indicate a felt that glitters and has very small threads of another color on its surface.
Having said that I believe it will be the last in the series of current Tonaks that I will add to my collection.

The measurements are 7 centimeters the brim, 4 cm. the ribbon which is matching the felt and the open crown is 13cm. Now the doubt arises: where to send him to get a better hat?
A blue hat in a wide brim with longhair finish. There's a lot to like there, Daniele!

Today I am taking to MG to get it professionally washed and polished. Tomorrow I shall be up at six, since retirement I had forgotten that there are two six o'clocks in a day, but tomorrow morning it's up at six and off to Beaulieu (pronounced Bewley) for the one hundred birthday party of MG cars.

At the car wash my hat, made for me by Gamble & Gunn, will get photographed more than the car. What amuses me about that is that the guys all wear caps, with the peak facing to the rear, yet my hat gets all the attention.

Click onto the link below and see the vast array of famous cars at the museum, everything from the cars in the James Bond movies to Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang and so much more in between.

Fabulous, Robert! For a party like that I'd stick with the French pronunciation: gives it that little extra je ne sais quois ;)

It is a great line up, you are right Joe. I went up and down, up and down, in the end I concur with The Battersby.

Fantastic hat, Jonathan. Shape finsih and gills: it's all there.

Thanks, Stefen! This is the first of three Standard Quality Stetson's I'll be debuting over the coming weeks. The other two are black and charcoal grey, respectively, and while each has different appointments these pre-war hats are all dynamite in their own right. The felt on this brown one will do anything you want.

Great line up as usual. Another vote for the Battersby and one for the Solis.

+1 on that
Thank you, gentlemen.

The site is a real pita for posting or even just clicking a like! I hope it will be fixed soon.

Anyway, this is one I wore a couple of days ago. A modern, lightweight Herbert Johnson, no liner, thin felt Fedora.

Once again, I'm grateful to Stefan for letting this one come my way.
