What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Stayed in “incognito mode” today as we cruised up to Highlands to see, Jackson Hole (no Wyoming) Bust Your Butt Falls… (which I could see why one might in fact bust their butt trying to cross) Dry Falls… (which are absolutely in no way dry) and Bridal Vail Falls… (which was in fact almost dry)

Love this tweed with maroon and tans. Can’t make out what’s left of the brand imprint on the liner.

Nice cap and pics, Joe.

That’s a really great pattern on that cap, @Blare and you wear it so naturally. Super nice.

I haven’t been able to post much recently, lots going on around here, but here’s a smattering of some of my recent favorites.

Good to see you around, Jeff. Excellent selection.

You've got the Stetsons in black covered, Perry. More love for the black hat!

Good morning. I checked after my walk and the bird baths are frozen. It is a cool morning. A Stetson Stratoliner DeLuxe was my morning walkabout hat.

Warmer clothes, coffee and a Gannon wanderer were de-rigor.

the granite Winchester felt hue is hard to capture in the morning.

Working on trimming some rose bushes in a Stetson Flagship. The petersham ribbon looks good on this lighter fawn hued felt. I knwo from previous posts that this ribbon style provokes strong dis-likes and likes. For this hat it works.

Stellar hats as always, Eric. It's the Flagship this time to take the prize.

Chapeau Grataloup suede finish, ca. 1930s. Love this one. Still has its basting stitches.

Black hat and black jacket. Very nice, Steve.

Flagship, great description, I wanted a Stratoliner to top off a suit that I had made for an Aloha themed wedding. Just couldn't see one in the colour that I wanted. Esther made one, and a very good copy it is too.

Note the suit, how crumpled it looks. Next time I will listen to my tailor, linen is best mixed with synthetic.
Perfection top to bottom and left to right, Robert.

I got a little lost with the very welcome visit from my friend Steve :)
I had some new hats to show you and the weather helps me with completely warm days, too much for the season.

Barbisio "Sportex" Ratiné size 6 1/2 or 60 centimeters, 7 1/2 in the USA.
View attachment 458396
The felt is the interesting part of the hat: its dark blue color is fantastic as is the drafting of the dye, the finish is "Ratiné" ("withered" in English) and that is the surface is slightly wrinkled and in relief. The ribbon is in complete harmony with the color of the felt and it has very low total weight.
View attachment 458397
The proportions of the hat are generous, suitable for an autumn that, after having announced itself, has completely disappeared
View attachment 458398
Congratulations on your hats that I have very little commented on.
Barbisio variation on display there, Daniele and at its finest. Wonderful looking hat.

This was my first vintage hat—a Stetson Sovereign 20 Mode Edge. New sweat and ribbon (petersham was all that was available at the time) but continues to serve as a great everyday hat.

Jacket, waistcoat, shirt and hat. Perfect combination, Steve.

Sir the "ribbon" is 2.25" high with 4 pleats. The pleats have volume. They are not flat. This style pug is very cool in person.

While I like the ribbon style, you like it and a few others on the forum, I doubt that the average or novice hat wearer would be able to comfortably wear a style like this. I imagine we might here t is to bold. Between us, it is cool that it is different than the same old ribbon treatment.

I have seen Northwest Hat Co provide a couple customs to forum mebers with this pleated style pug band. We would have to ask the other custom hatters if they would like to put some effort to this style ribbon treatment.

FYI; Below are pics of the Stetson Beachcomer ribbon treatment. This is my fav of this style.

Breathtaking!

Another new summer arrival left to rest due to the too hot and unseasonable sun.
Today a few drops under a gray sky and an acceptable temperature

Panizza Sportman size 59 cm or 7 3/8 in the USA.
View attachment 458891
The hat was made about fifty years ago in Ghiffa - Lago Maggiore in a very good felt of "Cognac" color as the paper label says
View attachment 458892
What is interesting is its finish which is "antelope" or soft and velvety.
The proportions of the brims are generous and reach 7 cm. with the ribbon of the same color as the felt.
View attachment 458893
A heartfelt thanks for your likes and a big compliment for all your hats
Lovely hat and very generous proportions for a Panizza.

Letting all the pets out to play, eh? I'm all for it!

J. Hückel´s Söhne "Seal Velour" made for Huthase Dresden, Chemnitz, Leipzig. This is a fantastic chocolate brown close cropped Velour. Possibly 1930s late 1920s.

"Huthase" (Hare Hat) was a retail operation with stores in Dresden, Chemnitz and Leipzig. Here are actually trademark designs sent to J. Hückel ´s Söhne in 1923 (courtesy of Muzeum Novojičínska). It's one of the most clever designs I have encountered.

Gorgeous hat, Steve. Glad to see you around. Bring out all the velours!

Can't have anough homburgs! Keep them coming, Brent.

After being bedridden for the whole of yesterday with the side effects of the Covid jab, I needed a hat that would make me happy. My Stetson Custom V fit the bill perfectly. View attachment 459275 View attachment 459276

Black Super Barbisio Extra Lusso today! This is a great hat. Love the felt.
View attachment 459313 View attachment 459314
Lovely hat, Marcel. Big fan of Barbisio.

Good choice of hat, the mist from Ruby Falls can get quite dense. Tina and I have seen Ruby Falls, we had a great time in Chattanooga, a lady at an ice cream stall, hearing our English accents, was curious about English currency, as luck would have it I had every coin of the realm in my pocket. "There you go," I told her, "souvenir from England." She was delighted. Tell me, how many times did you hear the corny joke: "Ruby didn't fall, she was pushed?"

The Stetson Sovereign has an outing today, must remember to take an umbrella too, we had thunder and lightning earlier today.

I'm still uh-ming and ah-ing, about a burgundy hat.
Now if it was darker, something like a black cherry......

Thanks, Robert. Burgundy coloured hats require quite a bit of uh-ming and ah-ing I think. Picked up a wine coloured one recently (not my size). Just to get an idea: https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/the-borsalino-brotherhood.13133/post-2949456

Thanks for the link, Stefan. In Borsalino Brotherhood you wrote: "And here we go again; another hat sold as a size 62, but which was measured around the outside. It is actually a size 58. Modern(ish) Borsalino in a wine red colour called Porto. Raw edge brim at 6cm and the crown at 10,5cm at the center dent. It is a men's hat but to my eye this is not a men's hat colour."
In both hats and shoes American sizes are a half size bigger than Imperial, the latter being the British system of measure before we went metric. That half size can be significant when seeking a comfortable fit. To avoid any ambiguity I have always quoted the sizing used, in whichever country I am buying from, then add my metric size.
Your experience has given me cause for concern. How can a hat be a 62 when it's actually a 58? Has someone got a short tape measure?
Your last comment: "It's not a man's colour." Now that resonated, back to the uhm-ing and ah-ing I think.

Full sun Sunday and out of the ordinary heat.
Autumn seems to have forgotten that it is the season of rain and fog.
Panizza B.jpg
I had prepared this hat for some time, but the gray day, to be in tone on tone, is hard to arrive and so here it is
Panizza I.jpg
Panizza Marca Oro size is 60 cm. so a 7 1/2 and the color of the felt is "Lapis" while the ribbon is color is still "Lapis"
A perfect tone on tone
Panizza A.jpg
The ORO Panizza line was a top of the range in the fifties of which the hat has the shapes and proportions.
Never used, it is a leftover from stock which, however, has fueled the travels of moths
Panizza G.jpg
I want to expressly thank all those who have appreciated my hats of the last few days.
Have a nice Sunday
