The past month plus two of my family passed due to Covid complications. It is a challenging time for all. We held virtual services and I was pleasantly pleased with the outcome. Folks felt at ease to speak up and share. Our experience was that we had some elderly members of the family show via the social media app who may not have been able to without this change. Phone calls and letters have been follow-ups. Good to see closer contacts resulting.

This week I will feature various shades of Grey German and Austrian Velours. Most will be from the 1930s.

VEB Luckenwalder Hutfabrik "Velour" possibly late 1950s. Prior to WWII Luckenwald (located ~ 50 KM south of Berlin) was the second largest hat making center in Germany behind Guben (Wilke, Berlin Gubener). Post WWII all hat factories in Luckenwald (located in the DDR/GDR) were nationalized as VEB Luckenwalder Hutfabrik. The Velour quality is fantastic especially considering the later time period. I especially like Blue Gray color and the Velour has great finish and very soft hand. This is a machine formed hat but doesn't suffer form wise.

Had an unfortunate encounter with someone at the beach yesterday who told me to go back to where I came from while I was taking a silly hat selfie. So I did, I went home had some rice and beans, binged Netflix, went to bed, and got up this morning and went to the beach again.

Northwest Hat Co. Cuenca, with a Thai batik face mask from the local fabric store that just opened back up. They said that they had sold out of black fabric for face masks being made for police and military.

The brim on this hat got really wonky so I ironed it hoping to flatten and smooth it out. It worked ok, but it was hard to re-shape the pencil curl by hand. The whole hat has gotten pretty floppy, and I am thinking of putting some shellac on it.

No wind, flat water, and the sun was out off and on. Perfect.

You are rocking the 'Rona look Reggie. Love the sage felt. I have a Strat in this color that I don't wear often enough.

Day 13 of 31 Hat Parade: Didn't leave the house on this rainy gray day, but let us feature a fine European Homburg. This Hut Schick offering is possibly pre-WWII. It has the features of an early one, but it is hard to pin down a decade. The color is a deep forest green. I have creased this one (with my Jiffy hat steamer) in a style from the era. The hat is of Austrian manufacturer in Vienna. Just to make it official, I did wear this one around the house today. The images are from the sunny archives.

Looks good on you, Mike. As I recall a very comfortable and soft hat.

They made some nice ones for sure. I only have 3 or so and they are all quality work.

It's good to take it our for some air now and again.

Was that made by the same people that made Steiff teddy bears. Strikingly similar furriness.

Mike, Thank you! Great looking Hut-Schick Homburg from you yesterday! Here is a photo of the Hut -Schick Alserbachstrasse 12. Wien location (1935). My guess is your Homburg is post WWII possibly 1950s. From what I can remember I couldn't find any details on their hat making capabilities so possibly sourced.
