Barbecue, beer and a whiskey coloured hat; life's not so bad after all, Alan.

It told me so, Max. Didn't I tell you I'm a hat whisperer?
Some of the more prolific German manufacturers, like Mayser and Wegener, produced a great many hats under various brands, probably on contract for wholesale companies or large retailers. Usually these were brought on the market under "posh" sounding names, like Windsor, Princeton, Carlton or under the retailers'house brand name. This one was sold through Konen Bekleidingshaus of Munich. And the label used with the distinct blue border isn't something we see on hats made in other countries. So it all adds up to the conclusion it's German made.

Good to see you, John. It's not Coleridge or Tennyson, but Mom can be proud!

Saved the best for last, eh? Exceptional looking felt. Wow!

Nice!

I'm looking at both the hats and the collection of face masks on display these days, David. I like both! Cool pics as always.

Great Gannon, Eric. Love these colours.

Yes! Always a joy to see that one, Michael.

Whoa, that's some crown on that hat, Perry. Impressive.

Thank you, Stefan

Thanks, Michael. The ribbon is indeed on of its attractions.

Nice to see the Portis out again, Michael Works well with the suit.

What's with these green hats all of a sudden?;) Looks good on her I must say. The colour of your hat is much better though.:)

Let's face it, you need more of them.

Thanks, Steve. That's my guess as well.

My appreciation for these hats grows the more I see of them. Works of art. The blue pug gives it a nice "spring" feel, Mike.

It's gorgeous, Bill. The ribbon is perfect, but looks to be somewhat vulnerable?

Thanks, Joe. So do I!

My eyes! My eyes! Why would anyone make a perfectly good hat and decide to make it green?:D
I see the beard is gone, Max.
It was never really a beard, I found out. But I had often wondered if I could grow one

Today wearing my Art Fawcett Milan.
I wore a straw hoping to coax the sunshine out. sunshine wasn't having any of that. Clouds rolled in and it started to rain. So I spent my lunch hour at my desk catching up on some ZZZzzz.
Beautiful hat Rick

Thank you guys. Borsalino, to my mind and head, made the most enjoyable iteration of the Open Road style - soft, formable, impeccably finished. I love each of my thin ribbons. Just love the Borsos a little bit more.
Someone gave me a vintage thin ribbon Borsa that needed a lot of TLC....it was in pretty rough shape and was missing the sweat band. The felt, though, was still nice. Anyway, I attempted to reblock it two sizes larger to a 7 1/4 to fit me. I lost so much brim width in the size up that I decided it wasn't worth my effort to go any further with it. I still kept it as a reminder to how superior vintage felt was. So much better than anything made today. Felting is a long lost art. I came close to having a thin ribbon Borsa but it just didn't work out for me. The felt on that Borsa was every bit the way you described it.

Greetings All:
Today...i wasn’t going to post this today because the light wouldn’t highlight the rich color and sparkle of this wonderful Borsalino which is it’s unique quality. This iteration is the Angora finish Gorasgu which is vastly different then some other Gorasgu models that seem to all be lovely.
i did manage to catch a little sparkle.
Be well and safe.

OK, so I finished up on my idea for the latest logo (of mine). The way I have it setup the following can have their own colors.

1: All the lettering.
2: fedora color
3: ribbon color

The logo itself is 3.24" by 2.83".

View attachment 234340

So for a red shirt I just ordered I went with Navy Blue lettering, a Grey fedora, and Burgundy ribbon. It should look like this when completed. I'll post a picture of the polo when I receive it.

View attachment 234341
Hey, that looks really sharp, Bill! Can we get the red-slate color???

Seriously, I'd be interested in a shirt or two like that.

Day 11 of 31 Hat Parade: Went on a drug run this morning. Not quite the same as it used to be though. Vitamins and flax seed oil for the folks, and other sundries, nothing illegal. Today was a first wearing of my Salvatore Ferragamo navy brogue oxfords. Another stray from Ebay, $850 shoes for $30 bucks! Grabbing an appropriate colored hat, I chose the Lee's of London 1950s fedora. This one has a beautiful bordello liner which I like very much. I had Mike Miller convert the brim to a whip stitch so it could be shaped like a true fedora with a "snap brim".

Knox Flying Cloud

Knox Flying Cloud - Grey
4 1/2 crown as bashed
2 inch grosgrain ribbon
1 3/4 brim with Custom Edge (Cavanagh)

I bought this Knox Flying Cloud because of it’s very cool Flying Cloud liner which depicts the sailing cutter The Flying Cloud which set the world record for fastest sailing time from New York to San Francisco in 1854. A record held for over 150 years. This Flying Cloud is a very soft supple felt and a beautiful grey color. I have kept this one in what I assume is it’s factory crease with subtle side dents as it really seems to suit this hat. This beautiful hat with its short Cavanagh edge brim originally sold for $18.50 and came with the cool red Knox pin.

This week I will feature various shades of Grey German and Austrian Velours. Most will be from the 1930s.

Echter Rockel Velour, possibly late 1930s - 1940s. Originally new old stock. Really fantastic colors (felt, liner, ribbon) and a superb Velour finish. Rockel Alsfeld was unusual because they were a post WWI hat company. They were able to produce high quality Velour hats (and other hats) at a lower price which made them popular.

Seriously, I'd be interested in a shirt or two like that.
Let me get it in hand. I need to see if any adjustments need to be made to the design. Then I’ll get a list of shirt colors and thread colors for the logo. If there is enough interest I’ll place an order. But I’m sure we can get you what you want Doug. I believe there is something like 20 different shirt colors and probably more thread colors for the logo.

Well Dressed Head hand woven Thai hemp cap with a Malaysian batik cloth face mask down the hill and along the coastal path on my daily Masked Corona Crawl today. The hemp cap is really just the thing for a windy day in the low 80s F.
The trades whip up the surf and things were quite choppy as I swam out well past the breakers, and still I had to pay attention for an odd breaking wave coming out of nowhere. Not too many bruddahs drove da pickup to da beach to surf today. Conditions were not good, and I hope some are back at work as we open up a bit from Stay
At Home, and transition to Safer At Home. The beaches are still only open for water exercise, but there are rarely big crowds at my local beach on this neighbor island, and these days it is deserted.

Wow! What is your opinion about European velour hats vs anything put out by the US? Both currently (1960-present) and the golden era of the 30s and 40s. I value your wisdom. Love the Rockel brochure, truly a gift to us all during the 'Rona Times.
