Finally got my new ribbon on the Cavanagh Homburg. Had a heck of a time getting the right ribbon. First I got 1” instead of 2”, then I got Petersham instead of finished edge. It is good vintage stock though and I think it turned out pretty good. Copied the bow style from the original one that was falling apart.

@AbbaDatDeHat was right.

I’ll save the naphtha bath for a more deeply soiled, or light colored hat.

All it took was low compressed air blasts, a brushing, a damp cloth and steam shaping to bring this hat back to its glory days.
I’ll say this: Though I have had no problems using water to clean or promote the stretch of vintage sweats in the past, lately, I have ruined two sweats with it. I’ll never use water again.
Leather conditioner and a rag only.
With this hat and sweat the cold water didn’t completely ruin it but shrunk and cracked portions of it. [emoji35][emoji35][emoji35]
Maybe you guys can learn from my recent astonishing experience.

Ran out with the wife real quick for some supplies. “Art-ified” Whippet. Shirt that is way too long. And my old Perfecto that I’ve been working on ALL WEEK. Bowen, it’s all YOUR fault.

Super photos, Stefan. I'm going out on a limb here, but it looked better back then [emoji6]

Great history Stefan.
LOL, What the heck is a Chipsy King XL...... ?
I can only agree it looked a lot better back then. Chipsy king XL is a storefront the size of a pancake selling french fries. It's this kind of franchise that makes me think we're doomed:rolleyes:

They are definitely hard to find in our part of the world, Panos. I think we need to take a trip to Amsterdam and have Stefan show us around.

We could Steve ! Many distractions in Amsterdam though, hard to focus on hats only ;)

I happen to know a route that passes all the vintage stores and ends up right in the area of erm... other interests.:D

That is a beaut, Max!
Gotta work today, since I took off yesterday so I could work on two hats. This fifties Adam is one of them. I’m debuting my new bow design called: the Coronet.

This ribbon treatment will be done easier and better in the next hat.
Cheers!

Excellent work, Randall! I find even the most simple bow designs a pain in the neck. I admire your ambition and execution!

A little Borsalino action for a breakfast date with the wife.

I still haven't cut the button covers out of my phone case, hence the look of concentration. At least there's no snarling today.
A Borsalino should score you that date. Looking good, Steve.
