Early morning walk with my dog Horatio (Tio). He and I watched the migrating broad-wing hawks roosting in the neighborhood trees. 10,000 raptors passed thru the Duluth, MN area yesterday. Yes, 10,000 (https://www.hawkridge.org/) . They come thru my neighborhood on their southerly journey. Today I wore a green Stetson Whippet.

This green Whippet has extraordinary thin and pliable felt. It needs a touch of cleaning on the brim. I will treat it to a bunch of steam to reduce the cupping in the rear of the flanged brim and to activate the stiffener in the crown. A wind comes by and the hat changes shape. It is the lightest Whippet felt that has been on my hat rack.

I have seen bluegrass Whippets. This Whippet is the same hue as my pine green Stratoliner. I know the Stratoliner is pine green from the matching magazine advertisements. I will have to do some digging to see what the green was marketed as.

Like other early Whippet's, this one has more brim binding sewn on the bottom of the brim than the top. Interesting Stetson treatment of the Whippet.

Back home to a bit of yard work before the day's heat sits in. Wearing a (new to me) wool cap for the efforts.

Best, Eric -

Excellent Whippet, Eric. The binding treatment makes me wonder if someone
didn't think a curl should be a live option.
It would be hard to make that one better though.

I couldn't 'like' your response because it was a bit sad. My eyes were once better than they are now too. I find myself trying to look through my glasses, over my glasses, under my glasses, moving to better lighting, and cursing the darkness! It brings the frustration pot to a boil.
I've been hoping a new prescription would sort it out.
Was it the sewing that made you feel you reached a plateau? It is giving me kittens.

The sewing was the major factor. Both the machine stitching for the bindings, and the hand stitching for sweatbands and ribbons. Took me forever to do anything involving thread, and most times I'd end up tearing it out and redoing it several times just to get something decent looking. Got really tired of my fingertips being hamburger from multiple needle sticks per hour.

I'm with you until the last point.
I was shopping Wish.com and found out those Chinese know how to make thimbles! I own a few now that beat the old style, uncomfortable, silver cup thing, hands down.
I wear two, one on my strong hand for aiming and pushing, and another on my other hand so I don't have to tremble in terror when I need to press hard.
Here is one set I like, with both on the same hand for photo purposes.
I was using a different pair late last night, but am unsure where I put them after falling asleep while sewing, then heading to bed half asleep.

I guess I should worry about the needle too.

Had to stop in at the workwear store on the way home from the shop. Levi’s cone denim shirts buy one get one free just couldn’t be looked over. Of course how they look with the 3X OR was most important.

Great hat and shirts, but not your everyday selfie.

Thanks!
5 was close to a success, 6 is better. I stopped at 9 because I determined that my skills weren't going to improve any more due to my low vision. Also, I ran out of felt and Winchester no longer sells to hobbyists.
Sheesh, John. If it weren't for these, I couldn't practice any more.
The new ones are A LOT more expensive. The ones with light work better, but you could just use a couple of powerful desk lamps. There are many models on eBay.
Mine are Orascoptic, the ones whose link are at the bottom of this post

Those might help me see my smartphone. Maybe enough to post a pic.
