I love green, I adore wide ribbons, I have a penchant for back bows, and my heart will always belong to Battersby Hats of Manchester.

Therefore, this 1940s model was a must for this evenings walk around the coast of Elsinore.

The liner is not stitched nor glued, but just loosely fitted.

The filtered sunlight helps bring out the green undertones of this circa turn-of-the-millenium Borsalino Como, my first nice fur felt. At 81g and $3 to the thrift store it is my lightest felt, not only on the head but also on the wallet.

Thanks Bowen. I basically just ran warm water through the stains and then gave it about a minute or two worth of swishing around on a sink of warm water. As you might imagine, it was very pliable after that. So I set the brim as best I could and set it on it's crown to dry for a couple of days. The stains are much less now, but still evident. I think they might be bleed from the wire in the sweat reeding.

Super style in the Supernatural. I've never seen one of those in person. Looks like a high quality hat. I do have a hat that is related in a way. The Saks 5th Ave panama. Gimbels owned Saks from about 1923 on.

I was thinking, due to the stiffness of the crown, that this was some sort of plasti straw. I clipped of a short end from the inside today and burned it. Definitely cellulose based material.

Thanks Michael, its very light and seems well made. The last seller believed this to be from late 40's to early 50's. Of course, I have no way to verify that. But is seems reasonable.

It is a National Historic Landmark.
I am the President of the Board of Trustees, which means I cut the grass, clean the toilets and pay the bills.

It is a nice place to be. We have 44 acres of open fields and wooded trails with a half mile of frontage on the Pawtuxet River in Coventry Rhode Island. It is my escape from the city!

Very worthy preservation, home & all! As you probably know thousands of cannons were melted down around the time of WWI for scrap.
