What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

It was 75 degrees this morning so I hopped on the Deere and mowed with my Rand Tom Horn keeping the morning sun out of my eyes.

NOT caused by wearing, Grasshopper, but by holding the felt crown at the pinch. It doesn't take long. In the movies of the day when most people wore hats, we often see guys grab and hold a hat by the crown pinch. That's because back then people replaced hats regularly, and there were hatters on every corner. No longer the case, and those that know almost always hold the brim.

Yeah, I literally never handle my hats by the pinch. That'll wear it out in a big hurry.

If you want a tight one, press it in, and then leave it alone.

I know I’m of a minority persuasion here, but I can’t help but think that the original pinches/creases in hats came not from balancing each element with the cheek and jawlines of every wearer, but precisely from grabbing it where it felt right.

While I treat most of my hats like royalty, I have a couple that I deliberately grab and wear hard. For those (such as my falcon park Lawless repro), if I should be so lucky as to wear a hole in the crown, then I will have made such an achievement and will wear the hole proudly, like my favorite pair of jeans whose holes in the denim were caused by my own blood, sweat, and tears— not those pre-ripped ones you buy at thirty times the price from haute coteur department stores!

Thanks! I don’t have an official name; I always call it chocolate milk, or coffee with lots of cream. I never bothered to look and see if there’s a label underneath. If so, I’ll report back with the official Lee color name.
