Echter Mayser "Superbe", possibly mid 1950s. I found this Soft Felt back in 2025.

Is my monitor deceiving me, or... this one looks like a pale olive? Or is it a light grey with a slight green undertone? Either way, I love it. I love a wide-ribbon bound brim (not got one of these among my fedoras yet, must rectify....), and the ribbon matching the body colour is a nice touch. I love a silvery-grey hat, but the ones I have in that shade currently all have a black ribbon, which rules the out with earthtones. A nice grey with a warm grey ribbon or maybe a burgundy would work well with brown and earthtones...

Fine weather—cold in the morning, yet still mild by midday.
Today’s choice is a hat bearing the "Cervo" brand.
Cervo Tonak Blu 59 A.jpg

It features a wide brim and a low crown, typical of many Italian hats from the sixties and seventies, though this one feels a bit more contemporary in style.

The felt is soft to the touch, with a semi-suede finish. It comes in a magnificent midnight blue, complemented by a matching felt ribbon.

Lifting the sweatband reveals that the felt is actually"Tonak – Akron Lux"—a material used for some Tonak-branded hats. Such are the complex interconnections within the European hat-making industry;

I own other Tonak hats in this same color and felt type, but this particular one made its way to Italy and was brought to market under the "Cervo" name.
Have a nice day and compliments for your hats in advance

Lookin' good!

I’ve got a BP I need to beat the heck out of! That one in your photo had lots of character!

I always enjoyed the fish leather hatband on these. SInce it started as a Baramundi fish skin, Ive always assumed it was water resistant lol

You should have let me know you were in town. I would have bought you lunch!

Looking good, Nathan!

Nice to see you Nathan. It certainly appears as though "the road" agrees with you. Stay safe !
No time for individual responses, but thank you gentleman. @fruno: I'll take a rain check with pleasure!

Sorry for the late post, been a hectic week. This one's labeled as Stetson Casual but lots of folks called it a Tijuana last time I posted pix of it. View attachment 816995 View attachment 816996 View attachment 816997

What block number is on the reorder tag if it is still there and legible? (also curious what the block number on the Sovereign you posted it as well)

I ask because I recently posted what looks like a cross between a Stetson Casual and a Tijuana in that it has the whip stitching on the self felted band but an overwelt brim. I wonder if perhaps the Casual, which went through several style changes with regards to the ribbon treatment, ended up as the Tijuana, which I believe we've seen advertisements of but no one that's posted one has the model name in it.

Scratch that actually. I was going to propose that mine was a crossover model, with a brim treatment similar to some of the Casuals I've seen but with the whip stitching that eventually marked it as a Tijuana. But yours is all whip stitched and has the Casual name in it. So who knows, lol.

I guess it's also entirely possible (although I know there have been many arguments in past threads, some of which seem quite silly, about whether you can call a hat a particular model if there is no model name in it anywhere) that there were hats that Stetson "named" but didn't label with a model name in the liner or sweatband for whatever reason. I'd be willing to bet this is the case, as I feel like I've seen a lot of Stetson advertisements with particular models named that I've never seen in the liner or sweatband of hats posted here, and it seems like with all the collectors here more of them would show up if they were all labelled.

I feel like in those situations where the block number and dimensions are the same as a particular model it can lend a lot of credence to something being that model even if not named explicitly on the hat.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if their advertising department just came up with names for the hats they produced in order to help sell them and perhaps only the ones that enjoyed runaway success (the Whippet, Stratoliner, Open Road, St. Regis, etc) ended up with the branding on the actual product. But again, who knows lol.
