Nice hat Rick ! I've got a Key Club that looks very similar except mine has a "pattern" printed on the liner whereas yours looks solid white. Can't see your hatband much but mine has a shark gill treatment on the side... is yours like that too ?

Mines a smooth white liner and regular ribbon bow, Also mines a raw edge instead of bound edge ( wish mine had it) .. This one looks basically new so I suspect is a fairy recent hat

I have the same Imperial Ultimate felt... super feeling hat. Ive always been of the opinion that in the last several years, Stetson made the same hat with varying felt qualities and trim details and gave them different model names.

Kinda of related , I have a couple that to the eye and feel are identical, but one is a "Royal" and one is a " Royal Deluxe". Also have one hat from early 2000s that has "Royal" on the sweatband, but "Royal Deluxe" on the liner. Always wondered if it was a "late friday afternoon at the factory " hat, or if the current factory has a sliding defination of Royal / Royal Deluxe lol

This morning I'm sporting a Stetson 4X Gambler style hat that I bought for only 45.00 on Ebay. Once again I added a pencil curl brim just because I really like the look. The hat came to me without a hatband so I found what appeared to be a really nice one complete with buffalo head nickels all the way around. Dang shame I paid almost TWICE for the hatband than I did for the hat. I had to re-work the Buffalo head nickel conchos so they didn't stand off the hatband by 1/8 inch or more. ( You can see this in the pictures of the hat. Last pic shows finished results with conchos now sitting tight to the leather hatband) Really wasn't that hard, just opened up the holes in the hatband so the post on the concho could go "through" the hatband and not sit on top of it. Then I had to shorten the screws that go in post on concho so the screw would tighten down and keep the concho from rotating. I spent an hour or so out in my shop making this hatband like it should have been done in the first place. Next thing I did was contact the vendor I bought the hatband from and we had a little conversation about the issue. None of the pictures in her ad showed the conchos sticking out like that. When all was said and done she ended up refunding over 15.00 of price for my trouble. I just can't understand why someone would let a product leave their shop with obvious flaws such as this because the materials used are top notch, the execution not so much.

Unless theyre going on a really thick leather, I almost always have to grind off the post and screw to make them fit. Its a pain but still way easier than the old way of doming out real coins and silver soldering a rivet or button loop on the back. Tandy leather was closing them out of their concho line a few years back.... I bought everything I could when they were on clearance. Ive got a big ol box of those in Dollar and quarter sizes (Walking Liberty, Peace Dollars, Morgans) . The Dollar sized ones are almost too big to use on anything but theyre cool lol. Ive used up all my Buffalo nickel ones. Getting ready to dome up some old silver dimes and solder a button loop on the back to use on a leather vest as buttons

By the way... for the ground off screw posts, I always add a spot of epoxy when I screw it together.... 5 min epoxy is fine.... Ive had a little trouble getting threadlocker to hold

Thats what happens when youre forced into an early retirement.... I have resurected a lot of old hobbies to keep busy ( The Dog, The Gym, The Banjo, The Mandolin, Socializing at the Coffee shop, Leatherwork, Woodwork, Hats, Gun repair, Smoking pipes, home repair, BBQ, Cocktails on the Patio etc) Never a dull moment or boredom around here

We spent the next day traveling by boat up beautiful Lago di Como.

Our relationship didn't make it through the summer. But on a whim one lonely fall weekend I hitchhiked 650 miles from Buffalo to Evanston, IL to watch her perform in a play at college. It was the last time I saw her.

Imagine the odds of finding a hat with reference to both places so far apart.

Mine is like yours, including the shark gill bow, and patterned lining but in a very dark blue. I cannot remember the brim binding or not but the felt is very nice and can be creased with ease......"somewhere around here, there is a picture or two" as they say.

Normally I tend not to buy wool hats but I couldn't resist that long hair look. Most of y'all will recognize that pencil curl brim and are probably sick of hearing about it. Hey, I paid 22.00 for that tool and determined to get my $$$ worth. Bwahahahaha !!

Normally I tend not to buy wool hats but I couldn't resist that long hair look. Most of y'all will recognize that pencil curl brim and are probably sick of hearing about it. As talented as you are I doubt you will have any problems. What size curl tool did you order ? Mine is a 3/8 inch and usually makes a nice tight, small curl with about 1/2 inch of the brim dipped in boiling water beforehand. When I did the Grey Biltmore long hair cowboy hat a few days ago I mistakenly got about an inch of the brim wet and to my surprise the curl turned out BIG. So much so that this morning I got the brim wet again and then used a hot iron with a towel laying on the felt and made the brim flat again. Then I re- dipped the brim, this time making sure to only wet a 1/2 inch. This time the curl was back to a nice tight curl like I was hoping for. I have it sitting in front of a fan right now drying. Once the curl is good and dry I will then use a little steam to shape the contour that I am looking for and hopefully call it good.
Like you, I am retired too and keep myself busy with all sorts of projects. Just like Neil Young sang... " Rust Never Sleeps ".

Timmy, I don't believe I've ever seen a grizzly wool, and I don't think anybody can reasonably throw any shade at that one. And I, for one, love seeing, and hearing about, your curling efforts. You haven't shown one yet where you went the least bit wrong, IMO.
