What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Decisions, decisions, it gets tougher every week. Got to go with the last one, the Mossant for Lalieu.

And now, Mr. Connoisseur of fine hats, I have a little surprise. We don't get ladies showing us their hats these days, we used to but sadly not presently.

Previously I told you that we are at a festival, it's called Twinwood, that's because it's held at the former RAF WW2 airbase known as RAF Twinwood. Here a couple of photos showing you the main arena. Those guys on stage are The Jive Aces, known for there yellow outfits as much for their musical style.

There's a lot more to this festival, just Google it and be amazed.

So, ladies in hats. Last night in one of the dance halls come stage and theatre, we were being entertained by a rather good singer/performer. Tina was up enjoying herself, I saw the smile, she grabbed my hat and cane and did an impromptu routine, much to the amusement of both the entertainer and the audience. The picture is poor quality because she was dancing left and right of me.

Today she wore a vintage dress that she had made from an original 1937 pattern. Her frustration at trying to find a hat of similar vintage led her to have a go at making one. She had no pattern, just a photo, but with a little help from the lady who makes my hats, by email, she made a rather good effort I thought.
Here she is in our hired motor home showing off her handiwork. She hopes you will be kind.

Thank you, Robert. Ladies in fedoras will steal the show anytime; we don't stand a chance. As for the hat: I think Tina can make anything with her hands she sets her mind to. I think it turned out splendidly.

Home from travels by mid-week found me having opportunities to wear some hats. Yesterday's heat found me enjoying straw hats/cap. This mornings glorious upper 50'f weather found me selecting felt hats to wear.

We are off to a classic car meeting today, held on the quay at Christchurch. We shall lunch in the quayside restaurant known simply as: "Boathouse." I shall wear the battered Biltmore but if the weather cools I might just wear one of my bespoke felts that the lady at Gamble & Gunn made for me.

A four day endurance test of alcohol consumption and terrible music (decent rock music is in very short supply). Used to be a local thing, but seems to have grown in some sort of national event.

A blue felted Manhattan fedora, not the drink.

A Borsolino Featherweight. This non-reeded felt fedora is extremely comfortable. Try as I may, I can fully remove the felt creases from the fedora.

3X, Mode edge, 6" x 2 3/4", great chocolate color, and of course a wind trolley.

I hope to leave it in as good a shape as I found it.

We went to a festival last weekend, called Twinwood, (google it) the music, mainly 30's 40's & early 50's was fabulous. Loved the big band on the Friday night. It's always popular but this year it sold out early, so many people with lock down cabin fever.

If you do look up Twinwood you will love the effort of festival goers all in period dress. Hats galore.

Always so well turned out. Did you know that the Brits refer to a cane as a walking stick? I have used one since my hip replacement surgery. I jokingly call it Michael, which gets one or two puzzled looks. Then I ask: "What's a walking stick known as in America?" At that point the penny drops: A cane........"Michael Caine."
