Today's weather reminded me of our first classic car, only back then, it wasn't seen as classic. But when the sun shone the wood just looked fabulous.

It was that reminisce that prompted Tina to make me an Aloha style shirt with "Woodie" cars on.

"Much too sombre," Tina commented. "Do you think so?" I replied, adding, "the only straw that I have is a bit mis-shapen." I put it on for effect.

I know, it's a different shirt, truth be told I couldn't be arsed to find the hat knowing that I had a previous photo of it.

So it was off with the deep brown and on with the nutmeg. "Oh come on," Tina said, "you can do better than that." "What's so wrong about this one?" I replied. "Nothing," she said.

Now if you are not married you won't understand the word: "nothing!" You see, nothing is really a big, "something!" But being married I carefully coaxed out her displeasure: "Shall I wear the straw?" "No, but you can wear your new hat," she replied.

So that's it, sunshine equates to a light coloured hat. "Yes dear," I agree.

That's something else you should learn if you are not married. "Yes dear," it goes a long way.

My Father in-law is too cool! Master Gunnery Sargent Braxton turns 98 this week and is still going strong.

He told me he can’t remember when he got this hat, but said it was long long time ago.

That is most impressive Bob, given that shooting brake fell out of our lexicon about fifty years ago.

Shooting brake is a car body style which originated in the 1890's as a horse-drawn wagon used to transport shooting parties with their equipment.

The first automotive shooting brakes were manufactured in the early 1900's in the UK. The vehicle style became popular in England during the 1920's and 30's.

Chances are that the hat of choice would have been the deerstalker. That's the one made famous by Sherlock Holmes.

How the written word can be misconstrued. I said I would have to change the polka dot hat band, that's not to say I don't like it. That hat is just perfect to wear with one of my striped blazers. Stripes and polka dots? Sounds like a Kinks record.

The forcast rain has just started. An Akubra FL CD edition is my hat choice for the light precipitation.

This hat just keeps on ticking through rain, snow and hard work. I remove the liner for Spring and Summer as it collects condensation easily.

I agree. I find lightweight felts (generally in a light color) work as well in warm weather as Panamas
