When I was after a powder blue Fedora, a young lady name of Esther Weis, came up trumps. She actually said that she would make a Strat-like hat. I wonder if Esther still looks in occasionally? I like to think so.

How I love that hat, but you can't just leave at one, can you?

Yesterday in the UK's scorching heatwave, I wore the wide brim that Esther made. When I first saw it, I thought: "Wide brim? More like a parasol." But as the picture shows, the brim was perfect for keeping me in the shade.

Late to post, but here are last weekend’s hats.
A special work day on Saturday. I was involved in a demo lesson for student recruitment. I went for my Panama.

I wore my Knox raffia on Sunday morning and Etsuko a hat of some description (memory fails me) but no picture of either.

Continuing the Mike Miller Exhibition, I am proud to present this completely rebuilt penman everyman Indy style hat. Reblocked to fit my head, new sweatband, and new boxcar - sharks gills ribbon treatment, and a new diamond crease. Also displayed is the shirt Artwork of a good friend from the great state of Texas.

More in the NW Hats thread.

To my mind, a fine montecristi is a tight weave and more... it should also have a straight and even weave, attractive blocking and fine finishing elements throughout. I've handled a couple of dozen montes over the years - this is my favorite. It carries some injury to the straw which speaks its age and journey from Ecuador to Cuba to various homes in the U.S. Pre-revolution, likely 1940s, perhaps 1930s. A treasure acquired from my good friend @buler.
