I have had and have a lot of black hats made in the thirties and before, many in fantastic wool blends, always in small to medium sizes.

My friend Stefan took care of filling the gap.

Barbisio Rat-Gondin size 59 sold in Genoa a few years ago.
Rat Gindin 8.jpg

It had some signs of aging, but Fleur of Penumbra took steps to put it back in order and, today a quite warm day, I took it for a walk, strictly with the brims up, as was the custom in those years.

Rat-Gondin is the French translation of "Nutria" the felt is very thin and consistent with excellent maneuverability and then it is black or elegance.

Thanks for the likes and kind words
Have a nice Friday!

A Dobbs made from several Dobbs.
This hat was sewn back together last night using a liner, sweatband and
felt /hatband from 3 hats that were, individually, incomplete.
Nevertheless, they came together in this one hat to make one awesome fedora. The other 2 Dobbs had suffered too much moth damage to fix.

The grosgrain bow was one of those rear bow creations except it was on the side. I wasn’t a fan of that look, so I flipped the ribbon to the “new” side and made a shark gill bow with 7 pleats.
The sweatband was a size 7 that made the stretch to 7 1/4, however, I wouldn’t recommend this procedure when not knowing exactly how and what to do. I’ve shared a successful way to do this using “as new” sweats in another thread.

Hope everyone stays warm and safe in the hard hit areas.
Weird and dangerous weather out there.
We merely got more very unneeded rain last night. It’s been so wet for so long that the ground has soured. Even with the heat on (when I can stand to run it) and a dehumidifier I am fighting moisture and mold.
Not good for hat collections.

Ja, I don't think C&F would accept anything less than top quality.
Did you take a photo of the label, Randall? Sometimes, it's good to see them just to say, "it looks like a ... "

Thanks, for the link and info, Steve.
Very helpful.
I carefully looked behind the sweat and saw a reorder tag that gave up nothing useful and another tag that stated its color as Cubatan and under style said, C&F and then size.
Nothing else.
It’s a well made hat with superlative felt, so had to be made by a top flight company.

I often wonder if a gas bath would bring out more blue in this Mirtillo. Haven't been inclined to experiment so far. Maybe I'll just rename it blackberry.
