What kind of shooting is in the video, then, Brent? A Western Duel?
Looked like it to me. Nothing that we ever train. The problem with live-fire fast draw is that without a lot of training rounds go off in the dirt and even into feet and legs of the shooter. Earlier this year I saw a sheriff’s deputy shoot himself in the calf. I can’t remember ever seeing someone so embarrassed.
For most people we emphasize smooth consistent gun handling. In one of my classes you’d here the phrase “smooth is fast” several hundred times. Another favorite is “you can’t miss fast enough to win a gun fight, get your hits.”
I haven’t done much instructing this year.
