A supernatural leghorn straw from the Ecuadorian Panama hat Company. The shop in Columbus appears as an advertiser in the programs for the Ohio State/Michigan games... back in the days when the school up north would win every once in a while.

Hey guys... been off From here for a bit. We unexpectedly lost our mother on Wednesday due to COVID-19. My head is definitely spinning quite a bit. I’ll probably be away a bit longer... but I do imagine I will be back sooner than later as this is kind of been a bit of therapy for me these past months... and will likely I will be in need of that outlet soon. That and there are so many great beautiful hats to get to. In the mean time here are a few photos of me and my mom in better times.

So sorry to hear it, Joe. You and your Mom’s pics are beautiful.
I myself had a close call this week with my Mom and Dad and the Corona virus. Dad got it first, then Mom and then me. We all sat around for the last 2 weeks sick as we could be. Took my 86 year old Dad to the ER twice, but he has somehow, thankfully, survived it. A close call, to be sure, but cant help but believing God had a hand in his miraculous recovery.
I’ll be praying for you and your family, Joe. Take care.

I would love to know more about the straw. It looks like it was had braided, then coxed into a sort of Milan shape.
This is what a full braid looks like.

It's about 9/16" wide and then sewn together Milan style.

I’ve got to say that this hat blows me away. Hard to believe it’s your first attempt. I know you would have liked a bit less taper, but it looks great. You don’t happen to have a 7 7/8 block do you? ;)

Well, FEPSA gets credit for the pouncing, but I will take credit for the tacking stiches and ribbon! :D

I put the nutria/rabbit felt on the block, and I'll actually have to pounce this one, so we'll see how #2 goes. Aside from being inspired by the other self renovators and builders here, Scientific Hat Finishing says you learn a lot about constructing by taking a hat apart. Definitely true!

Covid cases are spiking in the state, and they have begun shutting things down and restricting travel again. I thought I would make another Masked Corona Crawl today just to encourage my neighbors and friends to be cautious.

Stunning!

A beauty, Jim. Love that colour.

Excellent hat!

Great straw and pug, Stefan, but no jacket? No tie? No new prodigal Borsalino?
Thanks, Jonathan. We're having an ucommon heatwave going on right now with temperatures reaching between 30 en 34 degrees Celcius. May not seem like a big deal to some, but for the Netherlands that's scorching. So, as much as I'd like to wear the new felts (and a jacket), it's just not a good idea this week.

Good to see that one again, Jonathan. Never gets old. Speaking of which: you seem to be getting younger! What's the secret?

Wonderful summer hat, Alan. As well preserved as all of your hats. Beautiful.

Have a good evening,
Michael
When the weather's like that, it's best to look for the hammock, Michael, not the bike. Great hat.

Taking my first hat build out for a spin.
I'd call that a success, Jared. Well done!

Speaking of nice Panamas... :)
Thanks, John. That one was certainly worth reviving!

Whoa, Jeff. By the looks of it, that provides shade for the whole garden!

Enjoying a Shrimp/Crab Louie with a good glass of White Zinfandel.
The hat is a Churchill.
Nice colours and shape. Good contrast.
