What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

This week I will feature Echter Borsalino Hats which were made for the German Market. The hats will be from the late 1920s up to the 1950s.

This is my final entry of the series.

Echter Borsalino "Lama" "Fico", 6 inch Open Crown, 2 1/2 inch Brim, Point 6, date stamped May 18, 1929. The felt is very soft / light weight with a unique very wide ribbon and bow design. It has an fantastic over welt that doesn't allow snapping. The sweatband and silk liner (unique color) are of the highest quality. The Form is very much of the time and place. Overall condition of the hat is excellent. The Berlin store / hat company (Max Eckard) that sold it did not survive WWII.

Yes, it does, but I don't like that it doesn't have the original sweatband.

First time wearing this Yeddo Boater. It originally had a solid black ribbon. Art Fawcett had this brown ribbon which is period correct. I was lucky enough to get it from him before he closed shop. Mike Miller (Northwest Hats) did the actual ribbon replacement. I bought my first boater about a year ago not knowing if I would like them. Now I have three. VS Cuenca with a little added color, and a local Hawaiian cloth mask on the Masked Corona Crawl. Same old same old, isn’t getting boring. I don’t really wear the mask much, accept to take photos at this point. It isn’t really hard to social distance as there just aren’t many people here. Glorious sunny day with a light breeze, perfect Panama hat weather. Beautiful sand and surf, just beautiful.
Yo-Yo Ma played all of the six Bach Cello Suites live stream today in memorial for those whom we have lost in this Pandemic, and as a tribute to the resilience of our communities.
Such beauty makes me humble.

Ouweee! Makes me imagine what might be if that white fuzzy coffin hat I have were blocked into shape... would need a heck of a lot of starch... and alas it doesn’t have quite that brim.. but what a great look.

Thank you, Joe. It's more of a cream colour (as I recall yours is more a real white) and indeed it is fairly solid for a European hat. Very pettable though.

Just wondering: Since I’m not versed in the subject of hat provenance this certainly qualifies as a wild guess: Could the top number on the right side of the tag refer to the date the hat was made? Could the 73146 indicate July 31, 1946? Is the hat that old?

If only it was that easy! Borsalino had better codes than the enigma machine; hasn't been cracked to this day!

Our friend Bowen has a similar Dobbs as I recall. My Knox 15 is similar.

Mid morning I went for a walk to cool down after a run. The impending rain has me wearing a coated warm weather hat. Perfect weather protection.

This vintage hat was sold by the People’s Clothing Store of Boone, Ia. “Styles of Tomorrow.”

Lunch on the deck wearing a stitched fedora. Wears very light on the head.

Post lunch walk-about in a Mallory Dallas. Thin-ribbon fedora out to visit the field of lupines.

Day 24 of 31 Hat Parade: Since it is Sunday in the 'Rona Times and no in house church services, I chose to feature what I would have worn. Casual suit, maybe even no tie, and this spiffy Barbariso Italian racing homburg! I love this "Rat Gondin" which is french for Nutria. Italian hatmakers used French for a period in describing their hat materials. Nutria is actually a prized fur for hat felt, used both in Europe and here in the States. I have styled this slim brimmed Homburg with a diamond crease, making it very casual for this type of hat. I have donned the term, "mullet-berg" for this one, business on the brim, party on the crown kind of thing. Archive photos, I have been out in the garden and look pretty scruffy for pictures... This is another hat that I might be open to part with, don't wear it enough. 7 1/4 (58cm) If you are in lust for this one, shoot me an offer!

Stetson Whippet on top. Beautiful day, wish I were cooking for more than four people. Y’all have fun and be safe.
