That's a really attractive colour on that one, Michael.

Smashing hats!
Thanks Stefan. There is a lot of peachy undertone on this one in the right lights. Someone else posted one that must have been from the same batch of felt.

I really like the low roll on the brim this Huckel has. Made a very good look, to my eye.

Thanks,
Michael

This week I will feature the C. G. Wilke Guben, Germany Hat Factory. Founded by Carl Gottlob Wilke in 1822 Guben, Germany. He invented the weather-proof wool hat and was a major contributor in the mechanization of hat making. C. G. Wilke manufactured both Wool and Fur (including Velour) Soft and Stiff Felt Hats. C. G. Wilke Factory was severely damaged during WWII. Guben was the largest hat making center in Germany up to WWII but was heavily damaged during the war. What remained of the Guben Hat Industry infrastructure after WWII was nationalized as VEB United Hutwerke Guben (Guben was located in the GDR).

C.G. Wilke "Bürstel Electra", Open Crown 6 inches, Brim 2 1/4 inches probably mid to later 1930s. The gray Velour finish is really nice and it still has the original paper size label. It originally had a Crease Clip/Holder. I could tell by the wear on the liner label and the remnants of a very sharp center crease.

Put a pug on a cheap stingy brim Stetson Panama, donned a Cone Mills selvage denim mask, and headed out on the daily Masked Corona Crawl. No wind, nice big long even waves, with lots of surfers who kindly spread out widely, allowing me to swim out past them and float with the current over the swell. The Mayor canceled our curfew and the Governor is allowing some businesses to open up. On my way back up the hill looking out over the sparkling lights of town after dark, it dawned on me that it may never be this quiet again.

Day 5 of 31 Hat Parade. Today we travel to Italy for one of my finest Borsalino hats. I won't be wearing this one while working on the Koi pond, so images are from the archives. This 1950s Bismuto (gray) Borsalino Homburg is in "Qualia Extra Superiore". The fine lines and felt of this dress hat are an example of the best of this famous Italian maker's offerings. The "Homburg" style goes by many names in different countries, in Italy they are commonly called a "Lobbia". Even if I'm not going to wear this one outside today, I did go back into the hat room to fondle it for a while. Simple pleasures in Casa Lockdown!
