Beginning the trek to Wenatchee WA this morning to attend a memorial service for Patty's Grandpa, Jim Merlin. He passed on December 26th at the age of 102. It will be a true celebration of his life. Snow in Portland and the Columbia Gorge, but should not be too bad. I'll honor Grandpa with my navy blue longhair custom from NW Hats in Eugene, and will take along a 1950s Knox Premier Stratoliner clone (the Knox-o-Liner!) fedora for daily wear around town. I'll try to post some snow pictures, it will be bitterly cold in northern Washington.

Grandpa would have approved of both hats I'm sure, Mike. With a name like Merlin he would have appreciated the wizardry of that bow work on the longhair.

Sorry for your loss Mike. I know I would be honored if someone wore a hat like the navy Northwest to my funeral / life celebration.

I'll be wearing a black Borsolino to my Uncle's funeral tomorrow (if we survive today's expected ice storm and I can make it out without having to run a chainsaw wearing a suit).

The ribbon work and color combo is just wonderful Mike. Very fitting for a celebration of life.

Best,
Joe

All three are great, Stefan. You know I like the Gorasgu, but what kind of edge treatment is on the Borsa? Looks... different? Or is it simply a rolled edge? Can’t tell.

Thanks, Randall. It's an overwelt edge rolled inward on itself. Awesome work.

Like the way it shimmers in the rain.

Best,
Joe

Thanks, Joe. As long as the rain isn't too heavy I don't mind exposing these pre-war hats to the elements.
