That's good on you. Don't let it go. I have one of those too, and I echo your observations.

Eric, that hat is crying out for a good home. If you decide you don't want it, I'm sure there are many in line to take it for you!
Seriously, though, excellent hat, and it looks right at home on your head. I agree with Tom, just brush and wear it. Send it for a cleaning later if it needs it.
Oh, and I have found hats to be definite chick magnets. If only I had known this 30 or so years ago. My wife likes most of mine, now so that's just fine.

Thanks guys for taking a look and commenting. I value your comments greatly. It is the postings of many of your hats that have been influencing me to try out these great, iconic hats of the past. I find I like them (the oldsters) more and more.

As to cleaning, I am torn and in moments like this I will sit tight and appreciate the wearability of the hat. The hat does not have that pristine white/silver, but shows a the hint of yellow on the brim, ribbon and top. Just what you would expect of an oldster hat. Really what I need to do is to wear this hat frequently and order a custom newer one! Now thats a thought!

Lefty, I will post on the thread as son as I get some time to play with camera shots. The Macbook Pro thing is good for the quick shot, but I would like to showcase this hat with some consideration.

Content with the outcome of my first clinic and enjoying the soon to be adopted hat, Eric -

Unless the ribbon & binding are heavily soiled or stained, you'll want to keep it OEM. That sweat & liner can't be nicer from your photos. I am not sure what you are expecting but you can only get so far with a vintage hat.

BTW, Stetson silverbelly, even back in the 1950s is NOT pristine white/silver. Silverbelly is a color to mimic undyed, belly fur from several beavers mixed together to produce a felt body. Regular blended fur felt made from fur all over the beaver/rabbit/hare is bleached then dyed to a color that is to be similar to what this undyed, belly fur felt is. That ain't pristine white/silver for Stetson. There is some tan to it.

7X Clear Beaver & Stetson 100 are undyed beaver fur felt. Even they don't claim to be only beaver belly fur felt, just 100% beaver fur felt. They are stated to be undyed or natural.

We've been showing my father in law from Central America the sights here in the desert. It's over 100 degrees, so please excuse the shorts. Following an old recommendation from RBH, I bought a Dobbs Arcadia and haven't taken it off in several days. Came in real handy so far this weekend.
The secret waterfall nobody ever visits in our local Indian Canyons:

My father in law catching a snooze on a rock smoothed to glassy polish by water and the hands and feet of hundreds of years of climbers, way before the Europeans got here:

Thank you sir. We've got some hidden gems most people never see. They usually only get as far as the tennis court or golf course. There's somewhere around 200 miles of hiking trails through our local mountains and reservation, with lots of oases and surprises, but most of them take some traveling to get to. This is not the time of year to go see them, even on horseback. By next month it'll be solely populated by rattlesnakes and the occasional tourist who falls for the "yes, but it's a dry heat" routine. Frank

I once heard a friend from Arizona counter that "dry heat" remark well. His stock reply is "well, so's your oven".

David, as a photog as well - I'm just beginning my search for a quality hat, I'm tired of the ballcap/visor look and was curious what works for you when shooting. I'd like to find a hat that doesn't need kicked back on my head when I have the camera in position. I've got my eye on the ivy/rider style hats, but a fedora may get in the way as did the ball cap with the extended bill/rim.

Thanks!

After 40+ years of shooting everything from large format to 35mm I've found that just about EVERY hat which has some sort of brim extending over the front of the face gets in the way . Fedora brims are better than Ivy or panel caps as the brim can snap back up but the hat I wear now when shooting is a Beret and it DOES NOT impede AT ALL. I can even use it under a dark cloth with my 4x5. Just my experience. :)
