Very nice. Are there still any Marshall Fields nameplates left, or are they all Macy*s too. The pugaree makes me wonder if anyone has converted neckties for this purpose? (thought bubble> I wear a lot more hats these days than ties.)

Some of the brass name plates on the outside of the State Street Marshall Fields (I will never call it Macys) still say Marshall Fields. Also in the floors in the store there are some brass plates that still say Marshall Fields, but all of the signage that isn't permanent to the historical structure has all been changed to "Macys."

I can go even further. Being from Minneapolis, I would say "Dayton's" but never say "Marshall Fields," which took them over. Dayton's was a local Nordstrom-quality department store when I was growing up there. I suppose they're all Macy's now, but I've lost interest.

New Whippet interior shot

I got an inquiry to show a pic of the interior of my Whippet. Here she is:

The color is richer than shown in the pic.

Bald head chilling without the hat, Eric -

Al; Thanks for taking a look. The spring rain fell hard and I wondered about wearing a hat out. I am a hat wearer and not a collector. My hats need to be able to survive gentle wearing. The Whippet came out of the occasional drops of the very end of the rain this morning fairing well.

Yes, Dan, that is indeed the case, sadly...

Today Im wearing one of my cheap modern "Panama's" which I just re-blocked last week. I used the pretty straight sided and flat top block that I got from HATCO in Texas during FF3 this year. Then I added the front pinches and center dent. The hat had lots of taper before which I didn't like. The crown is fairly straight now, but unfortunately is pretty low for my standards. Its just my knock around hat and is comfortable to wear.

Josh; It looks sharp reguardless of price. Styling, clean lines make sit a winner. I have read many of your posts and I need to comment that your re-working of the hats on your hat rack is impressive. I have a couple of pics saved as a model to work one of my hats. Your efforts are appreciated on my desktop.

Pleasure was mine, Eric! You may want to consider adding photos of your Whippet to the At The Dog Track...The Whippets thread.

Al; Will do. When I add, I will take the time to set-up some nice shots with a quality camera. I have other Whippets that I should break out and showcase. To add to the thread I will mimic the shots of previous posters. If there is anything else that the post should contain, please yell.

For other readers, I need to note that Whippets are the early eye catcher to this novice hat wearer. When I came aboard they were a frequent posted topic and I gravitated to them. Thanks for the start.

Eric -

Looks good, Josh. You look ready for a jaunt to the Carribbean.

Oh, do I wish!!! Ive been to Florida and TEXAS already this year. I think I have to wait a little while longer to take any more vacation time. LOL. I hope I can make a late summer trip to somewhere really tropical that is not in the continental USA.

Thank you very much for your very kind words, Eric! I'm flattered that you have saved some pics of my work. I really enjoy working with hats. When I first started getting into hats, I used to just steam them to give a good cleaning and maybe redo a simple crease. As this hobby has gotten more and more serious, I honestly look forward to getting a new-to-me distressed hat and trying to make something out of it. I LOVE the smell of steaming felt. Ive told this to some people who are not into hats, and they just dont understand. LOL.

Good job JB!
It looks as if you have a wide brim on that one, you could put some of that brim into the crown and put a WAR on it and have a great summer hat!
The WAR would cover up the stitching from the sweat.
I would think at least a 2 1\2'' brim.
Just take the sweat out, reblock it taller [the straw should be easy to flange for the brim break].
