definitely not a rule of thumbCool name, "Hatatorium"! I guess its a rule of thumb, a black leather sweatband is post 1950s? I always associate it with a hat made in the mid to late 60s and later, unless there is some other outstanding feature indicating an earlier make.
You scored a Canadian Biltmores. Nice.
The President is a higher grade. Even nicer.
Yes. Both and the black one was made by Biltmore and looks like it was branded for JJ Hats (great shop) in NYC.Based on the sweat band, do you think I got two Biltmore's?

I know the feeling. After collecting a number of "normal" hats the older ones start looking more and more attractive every time. And even though I don't wear bowlers I would certainly want to add this one to the fold. Good score!GB Borsalino Fu Lazzaro & Co. about to be on it's way. Can't say no to an oldie.

Very nice, congrats.I haven't posted anything here in many years, but I just got word that the hat I commissioned from Michael Gannon is on its way to me. And since I wouldn't have known about Gannon Hat Company without this fine forum, I figure I owe you guys a thank you. Here's a picture he sent me of the hat:
