What do you ladies think of this dress?

Hi ladies! So I just might be the world's most indecisive shopper lol and figured since you're all so wonderfully stylish, you could help me out. I've been thinking of buying this dress:

While I'm not too crazy about Taylor Swift, I love the way the dress looks on her. I'm new to vintage, so I want to start off slow with dresses that are vintage-inspired. I'm not sure if perhaps this one looks too modern though? I would love to hear what you ladies think, so please share your thoughts!

Oh and I forgot to mention; this dress costs nearly $200, which for me is a lot of money. I haven't ever purchased an Anthropologie dress before, so I'm not sure if the dresses are expensive because they're great quality, or because they're a name brand. Anyone ever shop there?

I like Anthropologie - they have good customer service and return policies, their website has really helpful feeback from customers on size and quality of garments. And the dress is very cute! I'd never begrudge a girl her dream dress... but still, I'd hesitate to pay $200 for the likelihood of seeing other girls wearing the same dress (odd increased after seeing a celeb wearing it so well it in a magazine).

There are similar dresses out there for a lower cost point - this website has been interesting to me and they will "customize" their garments - sleeves, length, neckline, for $7.50. Here's dress with a similar cut to the Anthro dress, but in a 60's mod pattern, just to give you an idea. They also offer cotton versions in solids and prints.

That website is amazing! Thank you so much for sharing hopefully I can find a few great pieces on there, as my wardrobe is currently in desperate need of some vintage goodies.

As for the Anthropologie dress, I actually don't mind if other girls own it (I shop from ModCloth all the time, so I'm bound to run in to other gals wearing the same thing) I'm just worried this dress looks more modern than it does vintage-y. Since I'm new to this whole thing, it's sometimes hard for me to tell

Could just get this or this or these instead- about $100 cheaper and the same style. (I love modcloth too!!)

I'm also new to this sort of thing. But, well, in my opinion, if you like a dress a lot you should get it!- regardless of whether or not it's vintagey. I think it's okay to just use vintage as a guideline (esp at first!), but if you close yourself into a box that is too strict you may not have any fun. And dressing up should be fun.

Good to know I'm not the only one new to vintage fashion and style I'm finding it to be a bit stressful to be honest, which is probably pathetic as it is only clothing after all but building a new wardrobe is definitely overwhelming. If only all the beautiful dresses in the world could magically appear in my closet, life would be grand lol

Haha, I am so there with the stressfulness of building the new wardrobe. I don't exactly have money to spend on it, and my sewing expertise is with plush toys, not clothing haha. Still, fabric costs add up quick too!

I've been a little less stressed about it ever since deciding that I want to wear more of a 'modern vintage' look. That way it isn't 100% new and foreign to me. Plus, I don't ever want to give up wearing clothes that announce my nerdiness to the world. Hehehe. I mean, if I pick out clothes that don't express who I am, then what's the point? So I'd advise to be vintage, but don't forget to be yourself too!

Then again, perhaps I shouldn't be dishing out advice since I've been searching forever for the perfect dress to attend a wedding in next month. And I'm being so indecisive about it! lol I'm debating over this, this, and this. Oooo, and I just discovered this one! It's sooo pretty! ...See? I'm a hopeless case.

You and I both! The last time I tried to sew something, the end result was pretty catastrophic lol

I'm starting off with a modern vintage look too, just to ease my way in to feeling comfortable with such a different style than I'm used to wearing. I'm a little nervous about it, but like you said, clothing should be an expression of who you are!

I really like all four of those dresses! It's hard to choose, but I think my favorite has to be the pink one. With some pearl earrings and heels, it would look adorable!
