I'm a Nursery Nurse. That's a qualified Childcare Worker for our American friends! I also have to wear a uniform. Just as well - it's a messy job.

However, as a sideline, I am starting a little business specialising in cleaning Vintage clothes, particularly those annoying stains that stop you wearing stuff. All my friends come to me with that sort of thing anyway so thought why not do it for others?

This thread was started in 2005. I am sure many have changed jobs or had them changed by now. Would be interesting to know.
Amazing sometimes how many changes can happen in 5 years. I don't even recognize my own life lately.

Looks like I first posted on this thread in December of '06, and not much has changed in my professional life since then. But given the economic turmoil that the world has experienced during the last three years, I'm thankful for the relative stability in that area of my life.

I have noticed that I'm increasingly prosecuting the offspring of the "regulars" that I prosecuted when I was a young ADA. Sort of a sad fact, really.

I'm still a copyeditor at a financial marketing firm. A bit boring, but the people are fantastic, the benefits spectacular, and I work downtown where all the action is.

I also do quite a bit of freelance writing on the side, in addition to my own fiction writing.

My racket is Medical Staff Credentialing. I work at a hospital investigating physicians and saving the patients from potential Dr. Evils.

Same thing, same hospital, only now I wear hats for 2 additional departments...Health Plan Contracting and Student Clinical Rotations.

I'm the Safety Director for a state psychiatric hospital. I'm also the Assistant Fire Chief over fire and rescue operations at our local Fire Department.

It's been five years since I posted to this thread (see above). Since then I retired from "the Asylum" after 30 years service. I'm still the Assistant Chief at the Fire Department, and will probably stay there for another 30 years.

My "job" now is taking care of grandchildren and enjoying life.

Same gig--still freelancing, still the peripatetic ronin of the WWII Studies set... Not as comfortable as before due to reduced demand and available funds for my services, but still managing to eke and squeak on by.

I have been a collector since about 9 years old but an antiques dealer since 1996 in real world and online since 2002.
Sold at 7 different venues including 2 e bay shops but mainly at Tias since 2002 and now am at Tias, RubyLane and soon to be RubyPlaza.
It is all about the Find and the History to me. I still love what I do immensely and passionately.

Would you get mad at me if I told you I sold a 1941 Martin D28 for $1000 back in 1983 when my granduncle died and left it to me? I was 19 and that was a lot of money back then!

I understand they were just south of $100,000K at the peak before the economy tanked.

Could be worse, It could have been a D42 or D45!

Unfortunately we get into that "if I knew then what I know now" mode of thinking. Who knew that those things would skyrocket in price like that? Back in the same time, you could get D'Angelico archtops for less than $2000 bucks. Nowadays when you find a really good one, you'd be hard pressed to find one for under $20,000 bucks and that's one that has been refinished, repaired and messed with. The pawn shops were loaded with them back in 84. Now you're lucky to find them in the best vintage stores.

I am a real live marine biologist. I promise, it's not nearly so cool as all the books and tv shows say it is. But I love being a nerd, and can't imagine doing anything else with my life. Although, I absolutely can't wear anything nice to work (here I sit in Old Navy jeans, a very plain tshirt, and tennis shoes), as I routinely burn holes in my clothes with acid or other crazy chemicals. Maybe someday I can go into Admin, that's where the $$ is anyway, and then I'll be able to wear my vintage styles on professional basis. Here's hoping!

When I posted in Feb 2007 I wasn't working but was commuting 100 miles one way 4-5 days a week to work on IT certifications to go with my experience and degree. I finished that summer, and quickly found that I still couldn't find work as an IT manager due to my lack of hands-on experience, but now I was also not able to find work as an IT tech due to my extensive experience as an IT manager!

During the next year I was mostly out of work, though I did have a couple of temporary gigs teaching IT stuff. The second time was with a school that had just been bought out by another company based in KY. An IT team came through replacing all of the decade+ old computers so I started talking with the team leader. He said they had decided they needed someone in Ohio and asked if I had any certifications. Hey, I did! It took a while for the position to be created, but when it was they hired me. I've been the Ohio IT Regional Field Technician for Daymar College for the past year and a half.

It's not IT management, but IT jobs are scarce here in southern Ohio and, fortunately, it's turned out to be a great job and a great company to work for. I feel very, very lucky to have been in the right place at the right time, especially since I almost didn't accept that teaching job!

Just came across this post. I don't know which facility you're assigned to, but I found after I moved here I'd frequently hear "Oh, near the prison!" when I mentioned I lived in the Lucasville area.

Lucasville's claim to fame, I guess. No one ever seems to say that about Chillicothe when I mention I work there a lot--in sight of the prison, in fact.

I was in High School when I first replied to this thread...strange huh now that I'm going to graduate College in a month.

I'm working this summer/fall at an ADM Plant to save up some money to travel and work abroad...hopefully for a year or two.
