Sure! I'll interview female mayors about their occupational biography. There are about 3% of them in the federal state of Baden-Wuerttemberg only (compared to 5% in Germany overall). During my studies, I wrote some papers about female managers and at this point of my research, I think there will be parallels between both professions (or rather the way to leading positions in these occupational groups) concerning the challenges for women they imply.

Currently, I work in the Civil Service. I'm the person who decides whether people get benefits (or welfare as I believe its known over the pond). Its a real horrible job where I get screamed at all day, even had people waiting for me at the end of the day with knives - eeeek!

However, I'm halfway through my application to the Police, I'm through the hardest part apparently, so keep your fingers crossed for me!!

Wow, what do I do for a living? That is a good question.

One weekend a month, I play GI Joe as I’m in the Minnesota Nat. Guard. Other than that, I’ve been a house husband for about a year. My mother passed away about a year ago, and my wife let me take some time off to take care of my mom before she passed, handle the estate, and spend some time with my (now) 15 month old son. BTW, we are due again at the end of June!

I’ve actually been looking for a job for about six weeks now. I’ve had a few interviews, but no offers. I’m not sure why. I have a BA in anthropology and an MBA. However I got my MBA in 2000 so it may be getting a little stale, with all the changes in business (processes, databases, market research, etc...). My MBA was a little general and geared toward students who had a liberal arts background (read: not as rigorous as I think it should have been). I’m thinking about getting another masters (maybe in market research or economics). From there I guess I can jump off into the second half of my career, or into a whole new career.

On a side venture, I’m working on a shaving cream that one applies with a shaving brush. I’m not doing it from home, my wife wouldn't let me with the little one in the house. I have hired a FDA approved lab to help me out. My wife has tried various versions on her legs– a real trooper! And, of course, I’ve tried the same amount on my face. I have very sensitive skin so I’m trying for something that is mild yet lathers well and is slick. This would be my preferred career path but 95% of all business usually fail in the first five years (useally due to poor cash flows not lack of profitability). My wife is very supportive so I feel I'm very lucky.

Well the grass is always greener...we are moving to having all the eng instruments go glass and we are hoping for the rest to follow. Still, it beats working for a living.

Where do you fly the MD11 out of, and where does your line go? That is a very nice plane, BTW. I like most of MD's products.

Yeah, she's great to fly and very fast... we pass just about everyone on the NAT Tracks, except the rare -400 in high speed cruise.


I did my training with Finnair and mostly flew it with a Crew Leasing company.. We flew all over, EU, China, India, Middle East, US, Canada, South America.. now I'm actually flying the Airbus again for a contract(not quite as advanced, except the fly by wire) but don't have any pics with it to post.

My advise is keep those clock skills sharp, once you to a glass cockpit you start to get lazy .. add auto-throttle and fail operational auto-land and you're just plain left doing nothing! [huh]

btw.. forgot to mention that I love those head clamps!

I spent approx. ten years on the road with various no-name music groups as a bassist, but burned out and moved to the world of graphic arts. I have a somewhat successful graphics buisness with a client list that includes an international music group, many local businesses and non-profit organizations, and some of the local print media. While I continue to maintain a small client list today, I have decided to follow my bliss and become a historian/researcher.
I am currently working on my degree, which is the first step of my plan to attain my ultimate goal, and I already am doing research for an antique aircraft restoration company in my spare time. I hope to eventually live out my life in the back room of some aviation/military museum surrounded by relics of the past.

Tradesman dying tradition .

I was born in a long line of farmers, but i wasnt the first son, so the family farm went to my older brother, after high school i had a couple of opportunties had a chance to take over a tv shop, become apprentice to a clockmaker, and apprentice to a singer sewing machine mechanic and that was the one i picked . When you work with someone that has done his trade for 50 years, you have too marvel in this day and age of change socks and jobs. i now have done this trade for 26 years and now am becoming the old man of the trade, i specialize in fixing ancient sewing machines and treadle powered machines. The amish community is a big portion of my business and also pioneer museums, i always remember wearing my fedora and plain clothes and pocket watch to a pioneer village and the curator thanked me for wearing period clothes and my kids laughed those are dads everyday clothes. LARK59. Yes and i drive a 59 studebaker lark in the summer.

A trade not a job.

When i was a kid, one became a tradesman, quite often he took on the trade of his father, or grandfather. I was the third son so the family farm went to the eldest. The opportunity to go into tv repair, watch and clock repair or sewing machine repair came my way. I am glad that i chose sewing machine repair whereas its not easy the other two trades are mostly dead. Even my trade is considered a dinosaur due to the modern disposable society and the threat from super cheap products from china. I have tried to niche market and specialize in fixing ancient sewing machines and treadle machines with a market with mennonites, and missinaries. We also restore ancient machines for pioneer villages, and just crazy people like the bunch here, i maintain a cemetry of close to two hundred old machines to supply myself with parts. The best comment i ever had was at a pioneer village, wearing a white collar shirt done up, suspenders, fedora, apron and gray cloth jacket and sporting a pocket watch the curator thanked me for dressing period for the village and my eldest daughter laughed and said period those are dads everyday clothes. Drive studebakers and tell everyone else that the japanese car is absurd. 59 LARK.
