Now that is something isn't it?
First of all, i'm happy you are ok now, and I hope that the last 1,5 yrs have been good! I can't imagine what it must have been like for you with such a young child.

To me, it's incredible that there is this "language" amongst cancer survivors.
They come in all ages and cultures.
And i'm amazed by what those charities do for people who are currently fighting cancer. ( it's not surprising that they are either survivors or people who had relatives/friends that battled with cancer)

I was diagnosed with hodgkin lymphoma at 17.
Luckily it was caught early on ( stage 2 )
Went through chemo and radiation, whilst still going to school.
It all worked, and I've been all clear for the last 8 yrs. I have to deal with some side effects, but that is something we all have to live with, I guess.

It just amazes me that all the help, the charities and the volunteers do what they do. I greatly respect them and contribute if I feel that my help is needed. It's hard for everyone, but for me, I try to help the ones that are around the age that I was at the time.

For us it's different financially, since we have a different social security network.
But the thing you go through, and lets not forget what your family/friends go through is the same all over and it's those charity's that make the difference.
You carry it with you, and I will help if i can.

Now on topic :)
I work for a jewellery designer and make hats.

Alan, that's great! Wherever I go I look for nice cards. I love sending out/getting nice personal cards.
Call me old fashioned, but bring out the fountain pen :)

Thank you- I am doing well! We just had a second child in July (which you likely know as a cancer survivor who's been through chemo having children isn't always a sure thing). I have lymphadema as a result in my left arm, but it sure beats being dead.

It's strange, but the cancer community is the only community where almost every survivor sees one another as brothers and sisters.

To keep on topic, I recently started teaching part time again. This course prepares students to be managers. I am thinking of actually going on the job market this fall and applying for full time jobs.

I hear ya! I planned on freezing eggs, but that didn't happen. They did put me in "periodic menopause" which was interesting.
But it turned out perfectly fine so I'm lucky like you :)

That's very true. I've had wonderful encounters in the strangest places with other people who were either in therapy or survivors. You understand what you go through, that forms a bond doesn't it.

Good luck on the job!

Well, this mama is headed back to work. I was hired today at a sister school to Lily's school. I will be a teacher's aide (first grade specialist). School starts Tuesday. Major upside is same schedule as Lily's, so no daycare needed!

⇧ best of luck in the new role. I have several friends and relatives who, over the years, have gone into teaching, in part, because the hours and vacation days align with their children's.

Yes, my two sisters did the same. One was a sign language interpreter, the other was a baker/lunch lady. Their kids are all grown now, so they have moved on.

Hubby works in the city and commutes by bus, so Lily's care falls to me. Being able to work about 3 miles away from her school to be able to drop off & pick up is great, because her school offers no bus service - it is a "walkers only" school. Imagine how crazy 375+ kids out walking in one residential neighborhood in the last 10 minutes before school starts can be!

So that's why you were so complimentary about my handwriting, it was written in ink with a fountain pen. I'm truly flattered. Thank you.

Only because I live across the street from a pretty big city school, do I have a sense of the craziness that beginning and end of day brings. Much more enthusiasm in the crowd for the end-of-day exodus.

A friend of mine's daughter, about two years ago, left the corporate world to teach mainly so that she could align her hours to her kids. Makes a ton of sense.

I am a qualified Probation Officer, but now instead of holding cases I assess and train Trainee Probation Officers. Not much opportunity to look completely vintage at work when I'm mostly armed with PowerPoint!

That's a perfect Fedora Lounge career. When I was thinking about careers in the 1970s, many railroad companies had just died or been shot in the head and aggregated into Amtrak, so almost no-one then was considering railroading as a career. But in another life or at another time, I think I was tailor made for a career in railroads.

Railroad has changed a lot since the 70's.
When my dad started, he actually used a Telegraph and handed up orders to trains. I was lucky enough to get hired on before he retired (42 years service) and I got to catch orders from him a few times.

I dress the part though. I'm a big fan of Hickory Stripped overalls and fedoras. :)
