Oh yeah, I forgot, right now I am a ringer for Church choirs. They hire me to give a little oomph to the Baritone section for holidays.

Well, I now have a steady paycheck, although only part time. I am now a section leader at a local church, and a substitute cantor over the summer. Now to find somewhere I can afford to live on that, and a job to do the rest of the week so that I can buy food and such.

I manufacture fruitcakes for the Christmas trade.

No kidding, I used to work at Weston Bakeries in Cobourg Ontario where they make 70% of the fruitcake consumed in North America. We made 132 different brands of fruitcake for all different retailers.

They have this old factory equipped with cast iron streamlined equipment out of the forties. Everything spotlessly clean and painted white but 70 years old. It was great fun.

I'm an Engineer.

I look after Cyclotrons..... small radioactive reactors...... I have to race against the clock to do repairs or run the risk of receiving dangerous doses of radiation.

When not looking after them I'm responsible for MRI scaners..... equally as dangerous due to the massive magnetic fields that they induce.

I'm a conductor in all but technical job title, so that means I'm free from some modern regulations and can more fully emulate the vintage railroad "captain of the train."

I repair trains, or Electrical multipul units, commuter trains to those that are not sure what that means.
And performing modernisation to old stock in some cases including central locking of swing out, slam door stock, so that you cannot open the door while pulling into a station, bashing someone to the ground possibly killing them.

Oh. My. Goodness. I just had a character for a novel pop into my head after reading this. What a job!

I arm wrestle defense lawyers into pleading their clients guilty to crimes their clients didn’t commit. In less than three years, I plan to start arm wrestling prosecutors into dismissing their cases charged against my guilty clients.

So in other words, you're turning to the dark side, eh? I've got a few jokes you might enjoy...:p

Private income, do what i want when I want
VM

You, sir, are very fortunate. :)

I am a full-time copywriter/editor at a bank marketing firm. Can you saying boring? I do, and with astonishing regularity. It will be five years in September. I'm aching for another job, but as my hubby is in school full-time at the moment, we need the income.

I'd rather stay home and write my history articles (which I get paid for), my other freelance work, and my novels. I am a writer through and through and that's what I want to do for my daily paycheck all day every day.

I am, indeed. I plan to retire from prosecuting in early 2015. And then I plan to make the (professional) lives of my former co-workers as miserable as I can. The other Senior Assistant has already informed me that she's filing a motion to banish from the district on the day I retire.

Even now, I sometimes sit at the defense counsel table during calendar call. I tell the judges that I'm just practicing...

Ah well, I guess I can't be TOO hard on you since you've done your time on the side of the good guys, and I suppose defense lawyers are necessary for the functioning of the system. Just don't be pulling any dirty pool business like divulging investigative techniques and such.

Best of luck ;)

Oh. My. Goodness. I just had a character for a novel pop into my head after reading this. What a job!

Was it Dave Barry or Johnny Carson who joked that no one knew where Christmas fruitcake came from? There were only 5 of them in America and people kept sending the same ones to each other year after year.

The real story is they smuggle them in from a foreign country (Canada) under cover of darkness. It gets dark early that time of year you know.

Making fruitcakes in that factory was much like making them at home but on a large scale. We used a 10 foot high Hobart mixer with a pot 5 feet in diameter that looked like a giant mixmaster.

O ya make sure your character soaks the raisins in water overnight. Otherwise they suck all the moisture out of the batter and your fruitcake comes out as hard as a brick. This was one process that used to puzzle new hires.

Now the creative wheels are spinning...lol

I have ventured into photography, doing vintage style engagement and wedding shots. It is hard work, but very fun! My favourite is the RAF style engagement shoot I did last year, the couple had 3 chaps with them, all dressed up in uniform. Not a bad way to spend the day!
