I thought it might be fun to see what everyone on the lounge took in school, and if you are now working in your field.

To start things off... I dropped out of highschool then got a baking degree in community college. I am now in 1st year of a history degree in university.

I am definitely not working in my field, as I don't think I could afford university tuition on a bakers pay.

you name it, i've majored in it!

i took early childhood education classes early in college. i've taught preschool, daycare, worked in a children's bookstore, and nannied. so i've used that. my bachelor's degree is in women's studies, which i've never used in a career. i'm currently working toward my teaching license for elementary school. i'll be damned if i don't use it, after the expense! i've been in school on-and-off for 10 years now. at least in '09 i'll have a master's to show for it!

I went to a community college for Business Administration, then transfered to a university for Landscape Architecture, but then switched to Horticulture with my potion in Landscape Design. I was working in my field, but took a waitressing job, then a nanny position to be home when my girls get out of school.

I took- Airframe and Powerplant at the Academy of Aeronautics. I didn't stay with it but my twin brother did. He's out testing helicopters in the freezing cold somewhere right now.
I became a facilities manager (Chief of Plant Operations ....big deal)and now work at a school for deaf/blind adults.

I graduated in Anthropology. Never did use it ... can't imagine why. Overall, I'm no longer sure a college degree in a soft subject is worth the combined educational and opportunity costs.

I will be getting my BA in Criminology this coming December. I am also getting my foot in the door of investigation and have been training in the private sector for just about two and a half years now. I'm sure I'll be using my degree as well as my current work experience in one way or another throughout the future.

My formal schooling ended with high school, and the *only* class I took that has been of any practical advantage in my life whatsoever was --- typing. In the 27 years since my graduation, there hasn't a day gone by when I haven't put that skill to use.

The most pointless classes I took were three years of algebra. All those migraines were for nothing, and I have utterly forgotten everything they tried to teach me.

The most annoying classes I took were the history courses -- our school district was way underfunded, and our textbooks left much to be desired. The world history class I took in my junior year used a textbook copyrighted in 1937 -- we got as far as the coronation of King George VI, but if we wanted to know anything after that we had to look it up on our own. Come to think of it, maybe that's where I learned how to research....

I took a lot of things in school. Some made me feel great, others left me with a hangover, some I don't really remember.
Oh wait...you meant classes we took!! :D

Actually, I was the straight-laced type who only had an occasional weekend drink to relax. As for what I took...lots of courses in ecology, evolution, biology, etc. I earned a BS in wildlife management, went on for a MS in biology, and I'm now finishing up a PhD. I took all of "what I took" and now work for the Audubon Society (and still teach a few college courses on the side).

I took a year of business at a two-year community colege, then spent the next seven years taking photography at same - the last five just for use of the lab and the studio.

Now that's a career I would have loved!

I have a BFA in Fashion Design, a minor in 3D. Now I design and create custom wedding gowns and rehabilitate vintage gowns. I'm one of those ridiculous people that loves their job.

I'm currently getting degrees in Biology, History, and Anthropology/Archaeology at EOU.

Funny thing is when I was in high school I had lousy grades, today I had one of the other students in one of my classes ask me for help because I'm one of the top students. Weird going from c's and d's to all a's ;)

I've got a BFA in illustration, a master's degree in international affairs, and I'm currently working on a degree in "adolescent/young adult" secondary education.

I've worked in each of those fields...international affairs was definitely the most interesting...
