What Cap Are You Wearing Today?

I got into an interesting discussion with an executive assistant at Ortega hats in Cuenca about the preference of using leather or fabric for sweatbands. They always add fabric sweatbands to their Panama hats. They admit Americans like the leather sweatbands, but they feel the leather actually MAKES you sweat whereas the fabric sweatbands breath and you don't sweat or sweat less.

I also know Brent Black says leather is better at protecting the hat fabric IF you are going to be sweating a lot, but even then you can have salty sweat go through the sweatband and stain the hat.

In the case of these hemp caps from WDH, IIRC Keith states he also uses a hemp sweatband on them.

Thanks for the informed info.

Cold in the house this morning, so I put on my 30s heavy wool cap from Jonathan Cordova for awhile.

That cap has fantastic fabric! Perfect. Jonathan Cordova leaving the cap business hurts.

This afternoon I have been wearing a brown/charcoal diamond woven wool cap from Cordova Caps. I have been in Jonathan's que for a while and this is my last cap. This cap is fantastic. Fit, workmanship, materials choice, brim, sweat are all above board. Enthused and sad at same time.

Ooooh, that's the diamond tweed he offered me back when I ordered the cap I posted today. I wish I would have put it on a credit card, but was saving money to pay for my surgery and didn't know how much it would be yet.

Darn, did Jonathan say he was definitely hanging up the cap business, then? I was going to order the brown diamond tweed cap and then send him another Donegal tweed jacket to cut up and make an 8/4 cap from it for me...

He is taking a hiatus with the completion of this cap I understand. With my posting of wearing pics I gave a nod of tribute on the Cap Department Facebook site. I hope his decision is right for him and his family.

I am saddened as a client as I had plans for next summer and Fall caps.

It is a crazy unpredictable time.

Field tested the WDH hemp today, and it held up just fine. Many beaches are a mess from recent storms, but I went for a short swim today for the first time in 6 weeks. The beaches are officially closed except for exercise and fitness activities such as walking, swimming, and surfing as long as you keep 6 feet apart from other people and don't hang out.

Great color, great cap! I love the wide variety and low price of Mucros caps.
I do too; they're quality caps at what I think are very reasonable prices. I do wish the various websites selling them used better photos to show off the patterns though. My photos don't really do the cap justice either, and give it more of a blue hue than it actually has. In person the colors are more subdued and almost give it more of an overall gray tone.

You are field testing the hemp in the perfect location! Hawaii looks perfect this time of year. Congrats on the fortunate opportunity to reside in the tropical paradise.

I field tested the diamond patterned wool Cordova cap yesterday. Worked for me. Warm spring weather of 55'f (11'c).

Hat People natural linen newsboy today for my walk along the coast and a brisk swim. No one around on the coastal path, and only a few lone surfers at the beach. Got a break from the constant storms that have been rolling in, with the water finally clearing up a bit. Good to be back in the water.
