As I was leaving our local co-op, a lovely older woman edged her way over to me. She started, 'your hat...,' but paused. I replied, 'yes' to urge her to continue. She then explained that her dad had a black Stetson, and she was wondering if she could wear it. I enthusiastically replied, 'of course,' and asked if it fit. She said it did and well. I told her that the felt wears well for warmth, shade and helps in the rain. Told her I had received two recently since my 6 3/4 head can find vintage hats at great prices. I was wearing my olive Long, by Adam with its burnt sienna grosgrain band. She asked the color of my other hat, I mentioned brown with a burgundy band, which happened to be a Knox. As we walked through the parking lot, she paused at her car and smiled. Thanked me. I told her I looked forward to seeing her in her father's Stetson.
Seems all she needed was permission. I do hope I run into her again in our small town, that is becoming a mecca of vintage hat wearers!
