I think there's nothing wrong with the open collared look, in some cases a more versatile look than the neckwear options mentioned... I think dressing for the occasion is as important as looking smart.

It's also got a rugged appeal imho...

Frequent though it has been since the 1990s, I have to say that I loathe the open-collared look with sports jacket, blazer or suit. To me it is incongruous, unfinished and often sloppy.

No thank you, I don't wanna look like Freddy from Scooby Doo lol

Or an ascot? :p

I am fond of it, especially for casual wear. It's a heck of a lot better than saggy jeans and a T-Shirt, don't you think?

I think that's just a bit too cosmopolitan for a fella like me lol

How about a neckerchief? :)

Tom I had the same 'problem' for years, ties I like for formal events, they seem a little too dressy for every day wear, bow ties I just Cant take to unless worn with a tux ...over here they are seen as very nerdy unless worn by senior doctors professors etc...cravats are great and I do wear one occasionally ....a good way of introducing a little colour to the neck area is to wear an undershirt, a long sleeve close fitting T shirt is ideal ...I have several in various colours including horizontal blue and white striped ones which look great with a denim/chambray shirt....au this time of year they help keep you warm also....just an idea, open neck looks ok to me too but can get chilly around now.

I'm sorry you have written this, as I don't want it to become a self-fulfilling prophecy. I don't agree that ties are too dressy for everyday wear; sports jacket and tie were my everyday wear throughout my whole working life. Except when I wear a roll-neck pullover (turtle-neck sweater) I won't wear a jacket without a tie. Why forego a bit of individuality and colour?

Partly because of this, some way into retirement I am now returning to jacket and tie during the cooler half of the year.

lol you've got me there.

I dunno. "Cosmopolitan" doesn't seem to aptly describe these guys:

I agree with you, there. I think were I in my fifties or so, I could perhaps pull off a bowtie more gracefully, though. I do wear a necktie frequently and have many of them. It's just not practical every day of my life. I work in a factory and typically work on cars during the weekend. Minus the jacket, my last picture I posted in this thread is what I was wearing while working on my Country Squire.

I'm guessing you're in a profession where dressing nicely is a practical and somewhat acceptable thing.

One of the Luxire spear-point collar shirts, with custom pocket treatment, that I ordered awhile back, with one of Johnny J's caps in forest green herringbone wool.

A nice look MM with a very nice shirt,
Tom I do similar at the weekend but with old bicycles or some type of old machinerey and ties do get in the way, and if I am not doing that we will be out charity shopping and a tie is a bit of a bind to keep taking off when trying on shirts etc, ditto boots which is why I tend to wear Chelsea boots or cowboy boots as they are far easier to work with trying on shoes/boots or trousers...I really like ties and cravats and always buy them when I see a nice one though cravats are quite difficult to get round here....I have just bagged a rather nice burgundy/red one for my 'new' brown/rust country tweed suit that I just got but more of that soon with pics.
Just lately I have been sporting the 'New York cabbie/working man look at least on charity Saturdays, Sundays or theatre Saturdays(matinee) are sports jackets, chino's,jeans or cords with brougue boots shirt and tie or cravat, with the weather changing the overcoats are very soon to be coming out, hats and gloves are already here!
