Oh! Like a moleskin? How were Spencer to deal with? Expensive?
I could well be wrong, but I have a half-remembered notion that one of the Sheridans had a pair of cords made by them - was it them young Compton-Bassett won a made to measure pair from at one of the parties in the last couple of years?
It was Robert (I can't recall his surname) who won them. He put a note on the Sheridan web forum that he was very pleased with them. I have been using Spencers now for about 15 years. All my trousers (apart from suits and a couple by Bookster) are from them. They are about £100 per pair but are very quick (sometimes a pair ordered over the telephone will be delivered within one week) and are open to discussions on design. I believe they hold patterns going back to the 1920s so can basically accomodate any designs. It is worth emailing them or calling (speak to Alan, I think). If you have a vintage pair they will copy them and keep the pattern on file. As far as I am aware, they don't charge to make the pattern from your trousers (at least they didn't when I first used them). They accomodate odd ideas, such as the time I called them to ask them to use the upper style of my shorts to make a pair of trousers. They turned out great. Another time I had them take one of my patterns to make a pair of plus-twos.
I would always recommend them.
