It's a problem of too much coming at you at once, and not being able to get to the heart of the matter.

It's like someone needs to create a filter that bypasses the "nice hat/gloves/whatever" posts and all the reposted pics, while simultaneously categorizing all the "1950's Stetson Open Road Fedoras" in one database.

Kind of like Star Trek:

Spock: "Computer, display all men's suit styles, arranged by fabrics and colors, produced by Brooks Brothers during the period 1945 through 1955, highlighting any unusual or interesting details."

Computer: "Working...Results are now being displayed..."

I fear it would be more like the Starship Heart of Gold shutting down when Arthur asks the nutrimatic drinks dispenser to make a cup of tea.

Ken Doctor's Newsonomics: Twelve New Trends That Will Shape the News You Get

Been reading this on the beach. (Great weather, in the OBX, BTW!)

One of the chapter concerns Pro-Am approaches. Much of the content potential that we have here on the Lounge -- to follow the hat analogy a bit further -- could be entrusted to a consortium of hat guys (probably the ones with REALLY small heads since they seem to be the ones who can afford to buy DOZENS) and they could lead the way in publishing a digital vintage hat guide. They'd need a central photo facility so that all of the photos can be taken under controlled conditions. And, a centralized database (probably building off data derived through Terapeak/eBay). Finally, carefully chosen authors with smart assignments. It could be done and the perpetrators could make money. Now how MUCH money is another question!!
