What are the dimensions of your clone, Jack, and do they match the original BOP dimensions?
Mine is 3.5 x 4.5. I kind of surveyed the originals around & they seemed to be 3.5 x 4, & 4 x 4 as most common.

If you are considering ordering an RJT you might want to talk sizing with them first. Mine is tagged one size up from what I normally wear. It fits good but I haven’t actually measured it to know If it is off or not. Keep in mind they glue their ribbons. Mine is sewn because the Seller said it fell off the first day & he had them sew it on. I think the blocking & in particular the crown shoulder is most important too.

Great rain hat. Mine has been wet 3-4 times & never turned wonky on me. I enjoy wearing it.

Miller Fine Hats Denver CO, 4X Quality.
Has 3 1/2 inch brim with 1/4 inch binding on underside of brim, and 5 1/2 to 5 3/4 inch open crown, but I believe the crown was originally 6 inches and has shrunk. This looks like the Arminto model hats shown in the Miller Stockman catalogs. I guesstimate this hat dates 1930's to early 1940's or so. My instincts tell me Stetson didn't make this hat. The size tag attached to the sweatband says JC Penney Co Inc on the back of it, so perhaps that's where it was sold.

For what it's worth, that **XX Quality stamp looks awful similar to the one in my Champ Texan, just missing the circle around it.

Edit: So perhaps it was a LaSalle blank that Miller put its name on.

I think I read some discussion or wondering on the Lounge about where Butch Dorer got his hat blanks, etc. According to a 2008 article online in a Texas magazine or paper, by that time in his career, Butch spent a lot of time dealing directly with beaver pelt trappers or the first people who bought from the trappers. He had set up a network of such people around the world, and apparently had hand-picked those people for the quality of pelts. If this was the case, I assume Butch must have been sending these pelts to some manufacturer to have hat blanks made to his own specifications. And that being the case, he wasn't using any hat blanks that were available to any other purchaser. Obviously, I cannot opine on the veracity of anything in that article.
Here's part of an article about Butch Dorer hats written in 2005, saying he'd made 12,429 Pure Beaver hats as of April 2005 and each has a serial number.

Here's the tallest crown hat I own. 6 inch crown as creased with a 4 inch wide brim. 100 % Nutria by Masha of Mountain Bird Trading. I acquired this hat from her several years ago and she told me this was one of her personal hats, which makes it special to me. It arrived with the bow on the RIGHT side as many of her creations do, so I spun the ribbon / bow around to the LEFT side as a man's hat should be. I've had this one out in the rain, snow and sun...nothing seems to faze it !

Thats just purdy!
Thank you Rick. The felt is so nice & thin. As I remember the original band was a leather strap with some hammer on plated points that were tarnishing. I replaced it with a copy of Chief Rolling Thunder’s beaded hatband. The 1940’s WWII B&L aviators are Apple Green lenses in nickel silver frames.

Two from a photo haul last week......each would have been sold as souvenirs.

Harry Wheeler (Arizona Ranger and Sheriff)

Harry Cornwall Wheeler (1875–1925) was one of Arizona Territory's most respected and controversial lawmen. A former U.S. Cavalry sergeant and expert marksman, he joined the Arizona Rangers in 1903 and eventually became the third and final captain of the famed force. Remarkably, he was the only Ranger to serve in every rank, from private to captain.

Wheeler was involved in several famous ***fights and built a reputation as a fearless frontier officer. After the Arizona Rangers were disbanded in 1909, he became Sheriff of Cochise County and served during some of the most turbulent years along the border.

Harry Wheeler died in Bisbee in 1925, but his name remains firmly woven into Arizona history.
