I imagine you'd need more crown than this to crease all those X's into.

You guys enjoy your coffee this fine Sunday morning.

Thanks. Vintage Ranchers with the 3-1/8 & 3-1/4 concentric cut brims are getting harder to find.

Make sure the 4X buffalo is what you want. It’s neither buffalo, beaver, hare or rabbit. It’s a wool blend.

Nice looking hat. I must warn you that showing up on this website as a new hat person can be a bit... risky(?). That's a rabbit (see what I did there) hole you might never come out of.

I find the current day 6X and up Stetsons to be good hats.
Fortunately the factory outlet store is in my area so I try to stop in at least a couple of times a year. I don't always leave with a hat but when I do it's a good find!

I've only seen one or two of those 4x buffalo hats in person. They're ok for what they are but you'd get more life out of a fur felt. I have a modern 6x BOP and 10x Cogburn (Resistol, but it's all the same factory) the latter I use mostly as a rain hat. It has held up pretty good. The brim did start curl up a bit after more use, but that was easily ironed back flat.

Yeah, I can't imagine going from a Rand to a 4x buffalo.

Lincoln Hat Works - Lincoln, Nebraska
Milk chocolate - Medium Brown Felt
Approx 4 1/2 crown as shaped with “Dual Fire” crease
3/8 inch Tri-Cord ribbon
2 7/8 brim with 1/8 bound edge

A hat that had certainly seen better days… from a lesser known brand… in need of a new sweatband and covered in dirt… but somehow it just spoke to me. The felt while thin and dense is quite firm/stiff even in the crown… but shapes quite well with steam. The crown sports a sort of dual fire crease… almost like a slightly telescoped cattleman’s crease and was one of the things that really caught my eye. When I saw the photos though I immediately knew I wanted to try out a front pinch in addition to the crease… and I think it works. I tweaked the brim a bit… though I’m not sure I’m totally settled on this shape for it. I knew the sweat was fairly shot going in.. but I managed to sweat though and shrink up the old leather in today’s broiling heat. Oh well.
