That’s a great hat! You wear this style better than anyone I’ve seen...it looks like a real hat on you and not a costume.

Thanks. Makes me laugh though. Snowing lightly yesterday morning when I was feeding. Night before I had seen Willie wearing his old sugar loaf sombrero from Barbarossa in a music video.

Willie Nelson - A Horse Called Music (Music Video) ft. Merle Haggard - YouTube

It had stayed kinda miserable out most of the day. With the song in mind I intentionally pulled out my old packer coat and the Sombrero to stay warm. Neither were justified. Just wanted all the creature comforts both offered me.

Amazing when you think about it. Most of us here @ the Lounge wear something daily that many of the world today would consider an out dated costume. Hats are for me, if any thing, memories. Or if not a memory, a vision. May be the two combined. I appreciate the compliment. I really do. But fact is every hat I put on is just a part of a costume for me. Each and every one reminds me, in a different way, of just how lucky we are.

Definition of costume

1: the prevailing fashion in coiffure, jewelry, and apparel of a period, country, or class
2: an outfit worn to create the appearance characteristic of a particular period, person, place, or thing, Halloween costumes
3: a person's ensemble of outer garments

I don't think many if any of us hit the first definition, but we sure, all of us, hit 2 and 3. As pointed out, you wear that style well, sir.

Happy New Year!

I'm going to stay out of this discussion but I agree with your above statement. You have hit upon something very important.

Thank you Sir.

Some folks wear a hat, just because it is a hat. Lounge folks, just by showing up here, are more than likely above that fray.

I've got, go to town hats, sun hats, horse hats, farm hats, water hats, riding hats and a few, day's work, hats. And just as likely any one of them would do for every one of those same jobs. I have hats that are pure make believe to me every time I put them on. Big sombreros are a few of them. If I won't wear it to town on any given day, it is a "costume" hat in my mind. I don't have any issue with that. Some times they just don't fit in the truck :) Heck, most days, for one reason or another, I'd rather being doing something other than what I am doing. Some times a good hat allows for just that little bit of needed escape.

But no doubt in my mind I'm looking to intentionally emulate "the prevailing fashion in apparel of a period, country, or class".

If I could just think of a place I'd actually wear this one I'd own it. I think it is an awesome hat. Few actual restraints in my life but even I draw a line some where :) Likely drawn with Bob Dylan's hat and my wife's guitar. And I am sorely tempted daily by both!

I had a plan to replicate that hat then I came to my senses.....I still might just sans the orange & purple flowers and the sheaves of wheat.

I like it a lot. True story: before she met me, my wife dumped a boyfriend for noticing a poster in her apartment and asking her who Bob “Die-land” was.

Thanks Brent, I've been wearing it a fair amount. The horse hair band has the added utility of a bit more weight that acts as a counterbalance to wind.

Great hat! If only you knew where to get your hands on some floral decor ...

The world may never know.....

In all seriousness, the real reason is I haven't yet devised a way to make the florals easily detachable/re-atachable from the horse hair band. There are magnetic boutoniere dealies that might do the trick.

I like jlee's hat. But without the flowers and wheat those hats are just another 5" open crown, 3-1/8" rolled brim Horse hair hat band is nothing special. Charlie Russel was wearing that same hat 130 years ago.

Hi, Shape is good, but I don't like the combination of fuzzy and tone on tone hat and band. Somehow if doesn't look like it got finished.
Just my $0.02 and worth about half that.
