Hiya, folks! I know it's been a while since I've been on this thread, but now I'm back! Here's a picture of my ideal hat.
It was formerly made by the Jackson Hole Hat Company, but had to be discontinued because they could no longer obtain the extra-large hat bodies required for such a massive style. IIRC, it had an 8-inch crown and a 6-1/2 inch brim! (My ideal hat would have a 7-inch brim and a 7-inch crown. View attachment 183110 Also, in place of the elk horn button on the hat band, my ideal hat would have conchos studded with turquoise all the way around! (I don't ask for much, do I? :D)) D Bar J Hatters in Las Vegas has indicated that they MIGHT be able to make a hat like that--BUT--it would probably wind up costing over $1,000 (at least with the 7-inch brim and 7-inch crown I mentioned)! Since I'm retired and on Social Security, that's obviously out of the ballpark, so to speak! :(
That is a lot of brim and crown. Joao would love it.

Hi
What's the brim and crown size on the Stetson? A friend of mine is looking at getting a hat and he's at least 6'4" and 7 5/8 hat size. I think that style would work for him.

Later

Hi. The hat is 3 1/2' x 6' OC. As it is set up 3 1/4'' brim to the curl and 4 1/4' at the front dip and the rear of the crown is about 5 1/4". Hope this helps.

Just about finished working the (Glenn) O'Farrell. Didn't like my first attempt at a cattleman, so went back to open crown. Started by shaping into a brick but didn't look right. Rounded it out into a telescope/gambler, but didn't want to be confused with the Amish communities in the area. Finally said what the hell and went all in:

Horseshoe with a kick.

Still need to smooth out the brim edge a bit, but all in all I'm pleased with how this turned out.

The hat shop is a 120 year old cabin behind a local coffee roaster...the only two business for miles in the middle of cattle ranches. The shop isn’t insulated and is heated by a wood stove. A very rustic setting for a young hatter trying for the avant-garde market

Wow what a brim! Looking good sir. One day I will have the stones for a hat like that.
