Glen Gray(?) CD still in need of a ribbon but I wore it out anyway. I need to do a comparison pic against my Moonstone.
I have 6 CD's but no 6X OR's. I don't get caught up in all that stuff so I'll leave it for the experts.Soliciting opinions here on the 6X open road, if anyone has one. Also the campdraft. Specifically, the thickness of the felt. I have a 4X, and a vintage Royal Stetson with no X designation, and both are fairly lightweight and thin felt. I recently sent a more modern Royal quality fedora on its way because the felt was too heavy for my tastes, and was wondering if the modern open roads (and campdrafts) are also as thick.

Jack, I'm caught up in it because I live in central Alabama, where the heat and humidity make it near on impossible to wear a heavy felt hat most of the year. I have only one felt western hat, and it's just too much unless it's right around the first of the year. The 4X is light enough for most of the time, except the absolute dog days of August. The other Stetson I kicked on down the line was not, and since there's nowhere around here to actually lay hands on one, I was hoping for some input from folks whose opinions I trust (yours among them) before I lay out any scratch for one.I have 6 CD's but no 6X OR's. I understand. Thanks for the info. That's what I was wondering. To me, the modern 6X OR is much more of a western weight felt.

Thanks. I'm definitely not looking for a western weight hat. May try a campdraft. They come in some nice colors. Hard to pick.I had one of the current production 6X Open Road hats. It was every bit as thick and stiff as their full-on western hats. The Campdraft felt is thinner and has fewer stiffeners. The Campdrafts I’ve owned have been cooler wearing, than the 6X, but still too much for me in the summer.
I’d buy another Campdraft if the right deal came along, but regardless of price I’d pass on another 6X. YMMV

That's an especially nice one Jack. Really like the shape of it, especially the roll on the brim edge. Hope the bbq was good.

Thanks guys. The bar lights give it a green cast but it's natural beaver.Second what dale said. Beautiful Gannon there!
Thanks for the rundown on the campdraft. That helps a lot.I agree one hundred percent with deadlyhandsome, or at least 95%. The modern 6X OR is cardboard stiff off the shelf, but I enjoy mine, especially after having worn it in very heavy rain. It only got better.
I’m not entirely sure it’s actually much heavier than my BGCD, however, and if it is denser felt, it is definitely not thicker than many of my true western weight hats.
Not that you can tell much from the pic, but the campdraft is much more flexible felt but has a far less refined hand, kind of coarse. They are both my go to rain hats. Not sure one is better than the other, but simply different, at least for me.

Dress weight. Highwayman.Very nice one from Gannon. Is that western or dress weight felt?
Really like that one HJ. I'm a sucker for that style.
As they used to say in Georgia, DAYYUM!
