I'm thinking of doing away with the side pinches, and just keeping the center dent. What do you think?
Thank you kindly, Michael.Sweet Sombrero Lefty !!! Details ?

3.5" with or without the curl?Thank you kindly, Michael.
Granite felt, 100% beaver, I think the brim is 3.5", somewhere between 5.25 and 5.5 inch crown. Pencil roll bound brim, matching ribbon. The pearl stick-pin is an added accessory.
Lefty, very nice hat! If you remove the side pinches it definitely gives a Western hat more of a rounded barrel look from the front. It can help on a hat with a bit of taper to it. I don't have any side pinches in this hat for that very reason.I'm thinking of doing away with the side pinches, and just keeping the center dent. What do you think?
I'm not much of a fan for tassels on shoes or hats.
I don't suffer from tassel envy. And to think I've always pictured you in a pair of these.

Wow, Jack, pulling out the show stoppers. Two grand slams!Lefty, very nice hat! If you remove the side pinches it definitely gives a Western hat more of a rounded barrel look from the front. Certain Western hats just look better without side pinches. I think it's a combination of the crown height & the crease that effects the barrel look. Think about it; you never see a telescope crease with side pinches or a very tall crown. A really tall crown really magnifies the barrel look. I don't have any side pinches with this horseshoe crease & really like the barrel look from the front.
Try it. They shouldn't be hard for you to put back in if you don't like the look.
