Super Bob!
Thanks Perry! It was an amazing gift (even better than the one I gave myself).
Super Bob!
It looks great, Bob. Really nice.O'Farrell (mid-1980s from Durango) with a new Gayle Green beaded hat-band and Jimmy Begay, Jr. slide.

Looks great as is...Here's a Resistol 3X I reworked. I borrowed a little for inspiration from the Quigley Down Under hat...
I was thinking about changing out the hat band to leather but the one I put on it is hard to find these days...
Thanks buddy.@BobHufford , That REALLY was an EXTRA SPECIAL Christmas ! PBB , O'Farrell , and the Beaded Hat Band with the Silver from the guy that made your wedding rings 33 years ago ! You must have been Good .

He replaced the sweat. See the 7XCB thread.@Florida_Marlin could we see the sweat and liner ? Nice Hat ! How's that Nutria doing ?
Nice.7x CB
Here's the sweat once I broke the hat Down. Tried to save the sweat, but the threads were dry rotted. when I tried to sew it back in, threads holding the leather to the backing would pop. It was very brittle. So, went with new sweat. Put the stickers back in, too.
To me it appears to come from a modified campaign hat common in the military cavalry of that era. It retains the front & back dents common to the cavalry slouch hat but the rectangular top with the long side dents is a version of the western brick crease.I'm not a big fan of Steve McQueen in any of his roles. But his Wanted Dead or Alive series is good stuff. Since becoming a hat aficionado, I've noticed that the hat worn by his character, bounty hunter Josh Randall, changed considerably between the first year of the series and the second. The original hat looked like this:

And in Season 2, it became this, which I like much better:

A taller crown, for sure. Any idea what this bash might be called? The front-and-back dishes, with shallow long dents along the side? The crown as seen from above is almost rectangular, with a bit of a long dome down the center.
Might make an interesting project for one of our custom hatters, say in mid-gray . . .?
Jack, that's exactly what it does look like, a brick. Fascinating. To me it appears to come from a modified campaign hat common in the military cavalry of that era.
