Dijon mustard, butter, and dill are a perfectly good sauce for fish. It is a not uncommon combination in the cooking of the southern Baltic countries. You would want a fairly strong, oily fish like salmon, but even pike would work if the mustard is not too strong.

My late Grandmother used to make ham sandwiches with butter on it, I hated the taste but ate it to make grandma happy, she put butter on everything, did any one else taste this? Me thinks grandma never tried mayonnaise. :eek:

Thin lemon slices

Pour Dr Pepper into saucepan. Heat to simmering temperature about 180 degrees F or just below boiling point, (The beverage will appear to be boiling long before if is hot due to the carbonation.) Place a thin slice of fresh lemon in bottom of cup and pour steaming hot Dr Pepper over it.

Serve at once. This drink will be hot - sipping hot or should be about 170 degrees F. when ready to drink.

NOTE: A fresh slice of lemon is required to give the proper taste of Hot Dr Pepper

Yup. Been there, done that. My late Mom & Grandma (from Chicagoland) would always make sandwiches putting butter or margarine on the bread. Never mattered what else was on it. Even on ham salad sandwiches. I quit doing that when I left home. :p

What I remember most vividly about skewed perceptions of normal sandwiches was that my younger brother was 17 before he found out bologna isn't always beef and mustard isn't always spicy brown deli mustard.

He was HORRIFIED by yellow mustard. lol

Before the Microwave.............

Can of Chef Boyardee spaghetti in tomato sauce combined with a can of tuna fish. Makes a quick meal. Yum, Yum. :D

Speaking of weird food combinations and Paula Deen, how about this? DEEP FRIED BUTTER! :eek: I've never had this, but Deen actually made it on one of her shows. She took a generous pat of butter, applied liberal amounts of flour, plopped it in the deep fryer for about a minute I think, took it out, tried it, and pronounced it delicious. I was bug-eyed the whole time! lol

Canned veggies aren't NEARLY as appalling as canned spaghetti. Maybe the carrots will nudge the canned sauce towards a more acceptable color, its usually the same color as Ragu, and that's not right at all. lol

I admit I usually used jars of sauce, though, and just add spices. My sister makes her tomato sauce from scratch, and that's 7 lbs. of tomatoes to make one dinner.

I don't think I've eaten the canned spaghetti since the sauce started being sold in jars which is much better. And I will admit that canned carrots is one canned veggie I do not like. Yech. :eek: But heh, It was a quick meal... and nutritious. :)

A lot of people probably have salt on apples so I'll tell you a couple embarrassing ones. :eek: They both involve french bread.
I like french bread dipped in 1,000 island dressing and vanilla ice cream on french bread. Man, I'm hungry again.

I don't think I have any odd combos.

Not mine, (I can't think of anything less palatable), but my Mom's: Peanutbutter and mayonaise sandwiches.

I always liked Hawkeye Pierce's "Breakfast of ex-champions," Rice Crispies and beer. "Snap, crackle and burp." (Not that I'd eat it. I hate beer!)

Refried Beans with melted cheese [ ontop of course] ... coupled with ... whole wheat pancakes, smothered in butter and syrup ... with a large chocolate shake [ which I got last night from 59 Diner here in Houston ].

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. As a personal trainer it probably was not good to bring clients in with me ... but the place is fabulous and the food is actually pretty good. Houston is well known for restaurants that come and go, but the 59 has been there for quite some time now.

Stay away from the the above mentioned combo ... if you are on a roadtrip in confined spaces. :eusa_doh:

I love almost all foods but I have very few "weird" combos. I rarely even use condiments.

In any case, the weirdest thing I could think of that I really enjoy are Ruffles Potato chips smashed up and covered in Louisiana (brand) Hot Sauce. MMMM! Put it in a bowl and eat it with a fork.
