Washing light-colored/adventurer clothes

Tangential from a thread on Club Obi Wan about an Indy/Adventure shirt, just curious about the kind of care people give to their safari gear.

I wash my whites and darks separately, of course, but what about those fawn coloured clothes, somewhere in the middle? Don't want them to darken, but are they ok to put in with the bright whites? I don't want my white shirts to suffer either!

Being married with kids, and being the one to usually do laundry, I have to admit that I separate darks, lights, and whites. I really have that much laundry!! So you have me stumped.

Seriously, although that is true, I occasionally wash my Wested Indy shirt, or other light colored dress shirts, in the whites, because I wash those on delicate. I have not noticed them affecting the whites.

I used to have enough Maroon shirts etc that I had a separate load. I wash white shirts and khaki pants together, but don't wash the olive drab / green etc with white. With the accidental exception of washing the new red polo shirt with a white undershirt, I've never had any trouble with fading. Never wore than undershirt again.

Yep, I don't have any issue washing Khaki with whites, and warm water. I do'nt really mind if they fade abit even. But Olive I'd probably wash on it's own in cold. Colors/darks cold for sure...

I believe Filson recommends dry cleaning their cotton poplin safari clothing. They say if you machine wash use cold and line dry.

I wash my whites, navies and blacks together and put bluing in the water. Most of the rest of my clothes go in another load together.

Wash whites seperate and toss the colors in together, unless I have something like jeans that are likely to bleed color. Some reds are noted to bleed a lot, but I don't really have any red clothes a this time.

Unless I have something that's likely to bleed or something I need to bleach, I just throw everything in together in warm water. The wonders of modern detergent have prevented any issues. And if the garment has been washed a few times, it won't bleed, and anything new gets washed with high heat at least once on it's own to make sure.

If you bleach your whites every wash (not good for the fabric BTW), then put the khaki with the colors. If not, then throw it in with either.
