And most definitely YES ... Too much water will cause Panamas to lose their shape. In fact, even if you keep out of the rain, those after-the-rain steaming sidewalks can cause enough moisture to sag the brim shape.
I have heard/read there are ways to seal them up a bit to help, but I don't recall what they are.
After having a few weeks of experience wearing my light weight hat from VS I have to recommend it for warm weather. It hasn't gotten "Georgia hot" here yet... but on the warmest days so far I've forgotten I was wearing a hat until I see my reflection in something.
