Waaaa....It/They Do Not Fit!

Don't recall a thread like this though there may be one.

Who has bought something thinking they mayfit or picked up something just because you loved it and could not pass it by.

I just could not pass on a pair of Pepto Bismol pink Paradise Kitten ettes brand high heels from the 1950s.
In a size 10

I had never even heard of this brand and it is such a cool name. I see a few on the internet and am surprised they don't go for very much.

I tend to pick up things too small or too big just hoping I can get them altered or lose weight or get taller or suddenly have a clothes fairy fly by. Is it just me.

I have an aqua blue size small leather jacket with rhinestone button and several vintage dresses than no way, no how.. Cinderalla stepsister syndrome is what I call it. Is it just me? lol

Oh yes, I too am guilty. Especially if there's a long line to the changing room. I try to justify it by telling myself I'll make a pretty cushion out of the fabric. But I never do... It just sits there, a size too small (would have fitted a year ago), taunting me from the wardrobe.

I have a pair of late 40's jeans that I call my "in 5 lbs jeans". Well... now it is more like in 10-15 lbs jeans! LOL They are a bit on the short side as well, but that I can live with, sadly my big 'ol booty doesn't fit in them (just yet), but I couldn't say no!

it's usually when I buy something off ebay and forget that the measurements they give are the actual measurements of the garment not the measurements of the person who would fit in the garment

I just got some Remix shoes off ebay a size eight its what all my others are but these are heels and all my others are wedge. Wah they are way too tight for my wide old feet. Wahh..... I don't think they can be stretched as far as I need them either. Zombi girl I blame you for posting your cure yellow shoes up and well I saw these shoes they are so yellow and 40's I had to have em....

And foofoo gal I got closets full of dresses that don't fit me. Some used to some well ......

I bought a vintage dress online once that I had a feeling wouldn't fit but it was too cheap to pass up! I can get it on but it is supposed to be loose fitting so it looks terrible. Now I am stuck with a lovely vintage dress I can't wear

Cardigans are by far the hardest for me to pass up no matter what the size is.
If I see anything vintage and quality made it is a no brainer for me at an estate sale. I always think if I cannot sell it someone may just be getting this for Christmas/Birthday etc.
I am 5'2 and have a plus size cape from 1960s. Why, because on this forum some stated it is hard to find plus clothing and because it was/is so very well made.
I ran across online a vintage emerald green cardigan the other day (gorgeous but very small)
Still thinking about it but the fact that I have been looking for one my size (for at least 4 years like the holy grail) I could not do that to another vintage lover that it may fit. I also would look at it every day and get mad because it did not fit me.
I so want an emerald green vintage cardigan with long sleeves in a large. 42/44.

Aww.. this happens to me with 30s dresses. Everything will fit but the hips, and I'm not really a hippy girl
Now I always have to ask the hip measure and give myself a few inches wiggle room to make sure. There's been many a gorgeous dress I have to talk myself out of because the measure is spot on what I am and has no ease. Dang it.

With me, it's shoes. I check the measurements, ask all the relevant questions - and find most of them still don't fit. It's just too sad, as I'm a Vintage Shoeaholic. :cry:

Since I buy most of my vintage at antique stores and auctions, I almost never try things on; I've been remarkably lucky in general, but I've also had to send my fair share of too-small pieces on down the line : (
I made one of my first vintage eBay purchases this fall, a beautiful orangey-pink lace-trimmed silk 1920s dress in mint condition for $40.00... anddd it's too small in the shoulders/bust. The hips and waist are no problem (it's a dropwaist) but there are no closures, you have to pull it on over your head, making it basically unwearable. I thought about letting out, but I think I'm just going to bring it to a vintage store to sell or trade for something that fits. I'm petite and rather flat chested, so I foolishly assumed it'd fit.
So sad; it's awfully pretty!

I found the most gorgeous handmade 40s day dress with little horses and jockeys all over it on ebay. It was an absolute steal. The measurements quoted meant it should have fitted, but darn my boobies! It fits everywhere except across the chest. But I will keep it and maybe one day when sagging has set in...

Oh I do this all the time!!! I am a size 22/24 but always plan to be a 16.....one day so I buy all the beautiful dresses in 16s but then just look at them in the wardrobe (lucky its a early 40's wardrobe so they do look great hanging in there lol)

yay, I'm not the only one! lol As WearingHistory (aka the lovely and talented Lauren) can confirm, patterns are my weakness - I'll but one that I'm sure I can re-size, but then I lose confidence and go ahead and buy the multi-sized version of the same pattern! Guess I'll never learn...

Say, I like the idea of a skirt from a dress...*runs to closet* lol

Why not set a panel into the dresses that are too tight in the chest? That's what they did in the 40's anyway. Make do and mend!
Of course, it probably wouldn't work on a 20's garment if it has a fancy front... But the jockey/horse dress would be super cute with a contrasting panel I bet.

And yes, I'm a vintage hoarder too, can't let go of things that don't fit or MIGHT fit later~ tsk, tsk!

I don't buy things that I know don't fit, I don't have the money to do that, but I DO hang on to clothes that I've grown out of - knowing they will never fit me again - just because I once loved it and wore it. Or because it was such a bargain at the time! I have a fabulous little pencil skirt in the most brilliant fifties print that has a 23 inch waist - but I can't get rid of it because it only cost 50p and I used to wear it all the time!
