Back in the day, they would often make the dress very bare like and evening gowns, and then add a lace jacket, or coat, over it so that it was covered up for the wedding, and then after the wedding, the bride could cutoff the train and have a nice white evening gown.

Here's our wedding invitations. I did them myself from a kit I got at Target. Cost about $50 and they looked very high-end- lots of compliments. They had matching programs I made too

Oh, and here's where we honeymooned in Fredericksburg. If you need somewhere to stay before you leave, or if you are staying in town? It was just lovely, so quiet. We were the only ones there, except for the longhorns, donkeys and cats that is-lol.

It's so funny you ladies are discussing hydrangeas - I'm having some at my wedding too. Our colours are going to be green and orange (apricot/canteloupe type orange, not autumn orange, as the wedding will be in spring) and I ADORE green flowers in general and spring-green hydrangeas in particular. Looking at doing orange tulips or roses to compliment, hopefully says spring without saying Easter Bunny too loudly.

Unique Vintage has some retro-style dresses that are pretty amazing, but I haven't made any decisions yet. In fact, here are my leading three contenders, can you ladies weigh in?

My fiance and I are thinking about going to Cancun, but not like spring break cancun, there is a resort 20 minutes north of there called Excellence Playa Mujueres (my spelling might be off) but it looks beautiful!

Thanks! Yes, we were very lucky. The night before it stormed really bad and we were worried. But we could have moved everything inside if we had to, but it all works out. All the worrying you do, and it all works out- a message to all the future brides

I'm currently trying to figure out how to make a tiny budget go farther. Looking at doing the flowers myself, and my own makeup and hair.

I'm talking to other girls who are making their own cake or their own dress, but I'm not that ambitious/confident in my skills.

As far as makeup I'm currently thinking of learning how to do eyeliner (I never wear it now, can't get it to look right) and maybe artificial lashes because I was thinking of keeping the colour mostly on my lips, in a soft red, but still want some "pop" in my eyes for pictures. Does this sound reasonable? I don't think I have a mouth full enough for the Bardot nude lip look. Are fake lashes going to look cheesy?

I'm intimidated by all the people who are telling me I don't know how to do makeup "for the pictures."

What style veils go with '30s style dresses? I want to have long hair for the big day, because my guy loooooves long hair, but I don't know how to wear it. Bacall/Lake waves? Up?

Maybe try going to a makeup counter and asking for assistance? I think your idea sounds perfect, striking lips and a wee bit of definition for the eyes just to make sure the flash or something doesn't obliterate them?

As for stretching the cost, depending on the season, I think natural flowers can often be cheaper than fake ones. And if it's the correct growing season then the price might be more reasonable.

I love all your amazing ideas. I would love to have a garden/outside wedding but the heat in Florida in July, WITH potential rain! No thanks. I'm currently planning a vintage inspired wedding. It's not period correct but it has flair I think.

The Amazing Update No One Asked For

The wedding has been moved from Feburary 2010 to summer, probably June 2010. This means my love of sleeveless dresses works out pretty dang well, and we have been offered a lovely site.
