Received recently, leather actually still has that wonderful leather smell somehow. Competition Weight, seems to be a 1987-1990 (ish) model per serial number. Would you experts consider this cracked leather, or still serviceable? Love this jacket
Ahhhh, that makes sense! I did take a short test ride in it, and found the front length pushed the jacket upward into the neck, so I'm sure you're right. Didn't think of that. Just normal crease. There is nothing wrong with it.
The Model B is a bit longer in the front, about 23" front collar down, vs their other riding jackets which can be as short as 20" front collar down. So the previous owner probably did what I did which was to roll the extra front length while sitting so there is more crease/grain developed in that spot. Nothing is wrong with it, doesn't even look 20 years old.
Duly noted sir. I can't tell if it's actually dried out or not, might be the harsh fluorescent lighting in here at work reflecting back a greyish look. I'm fairly new to the leather game and my eye isn't trained well yet. Here are some other pics, same jacket. Still seem dry?I am no expert, but a little bit of beef tallow will help out with the dryness.

Just a little of that fat on the dry area. A good all jacket cleaning with a horse hairbrush never hurts the leather. Removing dust and other unwanted oils, smoke, ect. It will help the leather stay healthy. Just a little tallow goes a long way.Duly noted sir.
