I so envy you PD going to Japan and I love this thread, hope you don't mind if I try to hijack it. 
I'm saving up right now for a RTW trip (have $5,000 and need $20,000) and these are some cute ideas so far. This thread has also inspired me to try to look like something different from the typical backpacker so I need some good ideas, I'll probably make most of what I bring simply because I can't exactly bring true vintage on a trip like that. Anyway, the plan's to leave at the end of next April and I'm starting in Europe, England to be exact. To be more precise, I want to see Wales and Scotland since I've already been to England a couple times. Do some of you UK loungers have some good ideas of vintage styles to wear in England at the end of April? I want to confine myself to the 50s to make things more cohesive. Living in Texas, I really focus a lot more on warm weather clothes, but I hear it's still pretty cold in April in the UK.

Well this April was the warmest on record (or close) but that is not typical! April showers are more usual. You might get away with cuffed jeans or capris (as opposed to full length, though I'd bring some wideleg trousers in case it is nippy, which it probably will be, at least in the evenings), but you'll need closed-toe waterproof shoes in case of bad weather, plenty of cardigans/sweaters and a warmish coat. And an umbrella!
You may be lucky. This April we were all in our summer gear, then in May it plummeted in temperature...we're getting back to more summery weather now, finally!

Ana, what does RTW stand for? Where will the trip take you? You will be backpacking? Sorry, I guess RTW has a specific connotation associated with it that don't know

You're right SarahB, it stands for Round the World. although it won't be a truly round the world journey as I'm skipping Australia and Africa except for Egypt. I may not get in South America either if I run out of money.
My top 2 destinations that are nonnegotiable are Turkey and Mongolia.
Then there's China, India, Austria, Argentina, and Egypt;
Then its Scotland, Wales, Mexico, Costa Rica, Guatemala and England;
Then Spain, Japan, Uruguay, Brazil, and Thailand; and
then its Italy, Bulgaria, Malaysia, and Germany.
The higher up the list the country is, the more I want to see it. I can't wait, but right now I'm simply raiding my library to find out more about each country and I'm trying to do it systematicallt, I'm reading about Spain right now, next week I should be reading about Turkey and Malaysia. I hope this reading about each country will help me stay on task with saving money and help me learn more about where I'm going. I've only been saving a few months so far and have been frustrated with the wait, so maybe reading about the countries will help.
