Petone Railway Workshops circa 1905. H class steam locomotive, 0-4-2T type, for use on the Fell system on the Rimutaka Incline.

Whew I would pass on taking a ride on this thing, with the amount of dents on the cab that appear to be coming from the inside out it must be like a war zone inside that thing. :eeek:

I love vintage trains

Last year I was lucky enough to get to York (Great Britain) last year for the 'Great Gathering'

Here is me on the foot plate of the Dwight D Eisenhower

Shame that Wisconsin tore down all of the electric lines that these babies used right before the gas crisis...

While on a fishing trip the wife and I stopped to take this picture of a wall mural. This picture really doesn't do the artist justice. It is almost in 3-d .

Dan Allen, that is insane - thank you for posting. And to your point, some of the three dimension comes through (and anything that I can make out on my addled monitor is impressive).

You need to come down this way and actually ride the trains:

My boys LOVE it when we ride the steam trains. Nothing like sticking your head out the window and seeing the steam rising into the air and back toward you. The diesels stink. :p
You're right, that looks like a lot of fun! I also want to ride the Roaring Camp train to Santa Cruz some day. Too bad I got interested in trains AFTER I moved away from San Jose!

I got a chance to move all those engines at Railtown (Jamestown, CA) around for a film that I was working on. One of the most exciting nights of my life. I wish I'd had a camera but we were working so hard I probably wouldn't have had time to shoot any photos. It takes a long time to boil up a cold engine even with a 'draft' (air fitting) to get it burning hotter and more evenly faster. They take a fantastic amount of maintenance. That round house, engine shop, still has equipment that runs off of leather belts driven by a drive shaft from the ceiling!
