What a cool thread! Things I miss:

- readable signatures
- Levis made in the USA
- chewing gum in packs of baseball cards
- white t-shirts
- only 3 t.v. channels
- cherry phosphates at the drugstore soda fountain
- Mickey Mantle, Juan Marichal, Don Meredith, Tom Landry, Vince Lombardi
- cartoons before the Movie
- Sean Connery James Bond movies
- small towns co-existing with highways

Ya can't prove an opinion. I like a lot of those '70s car colors. Everything today is so gray, silver, black or white.

I as well. Have had a couple green ones from the seventies. My favorite of the choices.

I would definitely like more colors. The options don't even vary much among the various manufacturers. And body styles have few distinguishing characteristics from brand to brand too. They're the same shape but with different grill ornaments.

And speaking of body styles, what ever happened to basic round or rectangular headlights?

Miore colors would be fine but the car manufacturers of today save tons of money running lines of so many this color and so many that color. It isn't like the old days where they actually had painters on hand who could paint special colors or two or even three tones. That is what we are lacking. Computers and robots pain them and it looks like it. :p

In my lifetime, things people used to take for granted that are long gone:

"Colored Only/White Only" drinking fountains, waiting rooms, libraries, hotels and schools
Iron Lungs
Poll taxes
TB sanitariums
TV and radio tobacco advertising - "Scientific Proof in Support of Smoking!" (real ad copy from a 1950s Chesterfield radio spot)
DDT
HUAC

As a Virginian with strong Scots-Irish roots and a history major with a scholarly love of the middle period I've got a healthy appreciation for old things and old ways - my folks and I will sit around till all hours discussing family members who died before my parents were born - but I swear if someone invented a one-way time machine and offered to send me back to any time I wished, I think I'd shoot them.
